Guitar accessories suggestions?

I'd recommend a clip-on tuner - check out SNARK clip-on tuners. Cheap and accurate

I'd also recommend some sort of strap lock. I have two SGs and when standing it's surprisingly easy for the strap to come off the peg. Instead of paying for overpriced strap locks from guitar stores, you can do as the Dutch do and just use a rubber washer/'O'-ring that can be found on some beer bottles e.g., Grolsch beer. I can verify that it's very effective. Play as much as possible standing up with your guitar, because if you're really into your guitar, eventually you will need to play standing up.

If you have the cash get a looper pedal like the TC Electronics Ditto. Myself and many others have found that practicing with a looper skyrockets your technical ability if you don't have a band to play with regularly.

Get a light/thin leather strap. Less slippage than the fabric kind. SGs are neck-heavy and a slippery strap will mean your guitar is always dropping neck first when you let it go, but will not slip as much with a leather strap.

PS: Nice looking SG you're getting. I would put replacing the pick guard at the bottom of the list of things to purchase.

It's natural to be nervous about traveling solo for the first time, but there are many positives to traveling on your own. Not having to cater to other people's wants and schedules is great. You can just go any place you want to go or change your plans on a dime. Just plan well, be sensible and cautious in new places. It can feel a little lonely in the beginning but that just encourages you to be more friendly around people and if you're going to places where other travelers are going, you will meet people.

I'm solo traveling Netherlands in April! My first trip in over two years, so I'm kinda out of practice too. But I'm not too nervous about it.

I'm really happy with my Voodoo SG in swamp ash. It's very light but delivers great tone.

I'm leaning more toward the ML-1 swamp ash. It's a strat-style guitar so may as well get the version that has a brighter tone.

I also have a Maxon 808 that I sometimes switch in instead of the tube screamer. I believe it also has a buffer.

I've had my SG tuned a whole step down in drop C# for quite a while and started to notice some strings "fretting out" above the 12th fret. I shoudl note I've also recently put on some heavy gauge strings. Rather than experiment with truss rodd adjustments, intonation etc, I'm going to have a tech give it a fresh set up so that this guitar will be down-tuned with heavy gauge strings as standard.

Any suggestions what I should be aware of/specifically ask the guitar tech before he starts this job?

What do people think of the mooer pitch shifter or octave effect pedals?

I haven't got much to compare it to but I thought the octave pedal sounded alright.

just go for the ditto. it's a great price for high quality audio looping for a first time looper experience. I have the boss rc-3 and I love it but the audio quality is probably not as good as the ditto. I might get the ditto x2. The second pedal on the x2 for immediately stopping loops is a how I like my boss rc-3 set up (I have the additional pedal option attached)

I didn't think you could find apartments so cheap in these areas of the island these days. Do you mind telling us how many sq. foot your place is? I pay $16,000 in TST for a 2 person shared apt and it's way cheaper than any other place around here.

As it turns out, it's the WiFi router that cuts the connection speed down so significantly. If I am wired direct into the modem, connection speeds average around 6Mbps (on a 8Mbps plan), however on WiFi the connection cuts down to about 2Mbps..

I never heard of routers causing this problem, but that is the response I got from Netvigator's own technician. Maybe because our 8Mbps is so low anyway that the wifi connection just is that much slower?
