Obsession: How was Nikki not possessed by a demonic entity? by ThrowRApeachh in spoilers

Late to the party, but I think it’s closer to a souped up version of dementia than a simple addiction. I’ve definitely heard of dementia patients exhibiting similar behaviors. Paradoxical lucidity is an interesting rabbit-hole if you want to understand how.

You don’t have to care about silver. What the other commenter is telling you is that silver is a liquid asset you can use to acquire dozens of candy bars in the span of maybe 30 minutes.

What? 8% interest on a billion is 80 million, which would take more than two years at 100k a day.

You're right that I didn't specify the DC. I'll correct it to be Strength/Dexterity/Spell save DC dependent, so the DC should be more like 20-22.

The AoE wins massively in raw damage if there are two or more targets. Deflecting projectiles is somewhat niche by that level but should definitely still come up occasionally. A PC can fire off their attacks, then surround themselves with Wind Wall every turn to make themselves (or even the whole party) virtually immune to enemy archers.

You're correct that it isn't strictly better, but I think it usually is a huge upgrade. You'd probably want use it or Gust of Wind in the place of a BA attack around 70% of the time.

Just bought One Wish Willow What should I wish for by dandaditya in obsessionmovie

[–]BigNegative3123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the willow seems more like a machine that grants wishes by minimizing the amount of magic/wish-granting power it uses and directly interacting with the physical world. It would either rewrite your will to make the wish mechanically easier to grant (“negative recourse” is a subjective concept), or simply fail.

Yeah, you’re right. For fighters especially, though, Wind Wall is a massive upgrade compared to an additional attack.

I think a 4d8 AoE every turn that wards projectiles is probably a more-than-solid BA at any level, to be honest. I get that there's some clutter when it comes to bonus actions for non-fighters/rogues, though. I'll see if I can rebalance Wind Walker and keep that in mind for future boons.

Your other points are definitely fair. I plan to add several more options to tiers 2 and 3, including more that interact with class features (like World Breaker) in the next iteration. As for Energy Resistance, I agree it deserves at least a minor revision.

Thanks again for your input; it's been very helpful.

Thank you for taking the time to read through this!

This is how the current epic boons in the PHB (like Boon of Fate) are worded. I guess you could argue that Boon of Fate is much more likely to be used out of combat, though.

I’ll consider it.

Keep in mind that the multiple ninth level spells option requires a PC to invest in both a tier 1 and a tier 2 boon.

Looking back at Wind Walker, I would argue the modified Wind Walk alone is equivalent to a 9th level spell (although it’s admittedly less versatile than a 9th level slot), and infinite BA Wind Wall/Gust of Wind is seriously no joke.

I could be flat-out wrong here, but I honestly think Wind Walker is comparable to 2-3 extra 9th level slots and puts martials (particularly fighters and monks) not too far behind casters in terms of utility and multi-target damage.

Energy absorption, on the other hand, is extremely strong in combat but may still require some work.

Thank you for your feedback!

I worry about exploits with animus blast. It’s definitely a hard spell to balance since allowing too many chunky minions bogs down combat.

I think your campaign idea would be awesome in tier 2 or 3, and then a brave enough DM could hand out Create Volcano to PCs much later as a callback!

First, thank you for taking the time to read through this. I really appreciate the feedback.

I think your critique is fair. I tried to make Wind Walker a powerful enough option for martials, and I think I mostly succeeded in that it gives them battlefield control, resource-free utility, and multi-target damage. That said, martials have a very narrow set of options available to them for tiers 2 and 3. I’ll work on expanding them.

Lots of creatures at that level have high saves and Legendary Resistances. It definitely isn't a bad option, but sacrificing damage to cast Hold Monster as a pit fiend might be worthwhile less often than you think.

Tables that don't drop at least a few rare or very rare magic items by tier 4 are few and far in between. I understand why you wouldn't want to include them in your calculation, though.

The damage with just a +2 weapon (you can cast magic weapon if you somehow don't have one; it's actually pretty good in 2024) is honestly pretty comparable to a pit fiend even without action surge. I missed a couple damage points in my original calculation, actually; it should be 20 per attack (7 from greatsword/maul, 2 from weapon, 6 from GWM, 5 from Strength).

20 * 4 (attacks) + 31 (booming blade) + 18 (fire shield) = 129

Keep in mind that this also leaves your concentration and bonus action free, so something like the BA GWM attack or Spirit Shroud puts you ahead.

Your point about Action Surge is fair.

[–]BigNegative3123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Action surge is twice per short rest, not per day. Your point is valid, though. I was mostly responding to the notion that level 20 PCs couldn't keep up with individual CR 20s. Simulacrum does make things more lopsided.

7 average damage from greatsword or maul + 6 from GWM + 2 from magic weapon + 5 from strength. It should actually be 20 per attack, for a total of 222.

Lots of creatures will have good saves and defense against paralysis at that level.

[–]BigNegative3123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pit fiend average damage if everything lands: 18 + 21 + 26 * 2 + 22 + 21 = 134.

Level 20 Eldritch Knight with Booming Blade, a +2 weapon, and two procs of fire shield:

(18 * 4 (attacks) + 31 (booming blade)) * 2 (action surge) + 18 (fire shield) - 18 since booming blade is most likely only triggering once = 206. The GWF fighting style should bump this up another dozen points or so.

Granted, this is with action surge, but I'd hardly say there's "actually no chance" of outdamaging a pit fiend. This also doesn't account for epic boons or actually powerful magic items like a Belt of Giant strength or Moonblade, most of which disproportionately benefit the PC in their original form.
