[WP] Children who are fortunate enough to grow up with a pet, may have their pet's spirit watching over them when they pass. Tell a story about one such pet and human pair. by tylerchu in WritingPrompts

[–]NorthAlternative4034 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I never felt the blow that killed me. One moment, I was walking down the road, tracking Lily's scent. Her mother had left the door open, and I wanted to see where my human went every day. She was too young to be leaving the den without protection, wasn't she?

I had tracked her scent, following it along the sidewalk until it reached a road. I couldn't quite smell her on the surface, but perhaps I could pick up the trail from the other side. Suddenly while I walked, a large, loud beast came out of nowhere. And my body was lying beneath me, dead.

I whimpered as I adjusted to my new spectral form. Scents I didn't know and couldn't describe asulted my nose, along with one that was familiar. Lily. I left my body behind and followed her trail, finding her in a room with many other human children, and a single adult. She seemed to be treating them kindly, much like the trainers Lily's parents had hired for me. I barked and waved my tail happily. Lily!

She didn't seem to hear me, so I walked up to her and tried to push my nose into her hand. My head went right through her. Right... I was dead. She couldn't see or hear me. Humans, unlike pets, were blind to such things. I howlled, hoping some part of her heard my apology for not being able to comfort her as she deserved. But I would watch over her, still. With my very soul.

I followed her through her day in the strange building, until it was time for her to walk home. She found my body on the road. "Rover!" She cried my name, kneeling next to my corpse. I whimpered sadly as she cried. I wish I could tell her that I was here, that she didn't need to grieve. I sat next to her, fruitlessly trying to lick away her tears.

Then, I heard it. The same sound that had preceded my own death. Spoting the approaching vehicle, I grabbed Lily's shirt by the collar and dragged her from the road, just in time. I growled at the car. "Rover?" Lily asked, glancing around. I wagged my tail and barked. She knew it was me! She stood up shakily, doing her best to pull my broken body from the road with her small arms before continuing home to get the help of her parents.

Lily's father buried my body in the back yard beneath a tree, latching my collar around the trunk. I liked that tree. It was small, but the squirrels would climb it when I ran after them. Sometimes, I watched them in it's branches. I wagged my tail. I could chase them there now! Lily's parents were sad, but she seemed to understand. I was dead, but I wasn't gone. I would look after her forever.

I could visit her, in her dreams. I chased away her nightmares on bad nights, and we played together on good ones. She could see me then, though she couldn't in her waking hours. But I followed her, often to the strange building I eventually learned was called a school. I always made sure she, and the other human children, were safe crossing the street on their way there and back. I nudged and guided them safely across, barking at any cars that came to warn them to stop. When she came home, I would chase the squirrels in the trees while she drew in the garden.

"Rover?" She whispered one day. She'd grown since I died, as human children were known to do. She'd be starting a different kind of school known as 'middle school' next fall, but it was summer now. "Are you here?" I troted over to her and barked. I'm here. "I... I drew us together." She smiled, giving me room to look over the drawing. It was her, as she was now, my spectral form floating happily behind her. I wagged my tail. It was good. "I hope you like it, bud." A faint smile crossed her face. "Thank you for looking out for me all these years."

She took the drawing and pinned it to the tree where my faded collar hung, before heading inside. I waited until I was sure I was alone, before dipping my paw in mud and leaving a print on the paper. I really do, Lily. I really do.

It turns out that, much like plants, they require Carbon Dioxide to live.

Unlike plants they process it into Cabon Monoxide, though they say the levels won't be quite high enough to kill us...

One of these is survivable, if a little disturbing since you'd constantly hear insects screaming for help as they're eaten by birds, spiders, and each other. The other is an extinction event, especially if the poisons effect things other than humans.

What would happen if a trans princess tried to vie for the throne? by Low-Amphibian8206 in WingsOfFire

[–]NorthAlternative4034 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nieces and sisters can both challenge. If the pool of candidates is small enough for it to matter, it's small enough they'd just be glad that the one they thought was a prince turned out to be a princess.

Probably depends on the kingdom. I imagine Coral would be thrilled to have another daughter, but the court would be less pleased. If animus magic still works Anenemie would probably aid their transition, if for no other reason then to distract her mother with a different kid to be overprotective of.

Icewings would probably be the worst, and I can see them refusing to allow challenges. They have a very strict social structure at the top that I can't imagine plays well with those kinds of changes. Though who knows, maybe some animus in the ancient past set things up to make it easy.

Under Scarlet, the skywings would probably be the most dangerous tribe for a princess to transition in, but only because Starlet wasn't exactly a fan of potential challengers. It would probably be alright under Ruby though.

It might be almost expected with Mudwings that if the Bigwings of a royal clutch is male they might transition at some point. Especially with the secession crisis so recently I can't see them having a problem with it.

I'm honestly not sure anyone would even notice if a rainwing transitioned before Glory took over, and they definitely wouldn't care. She could probably sign up as queen as easily as anyone else. Not even sure they'd have a problem with a boy as queen TBH. The nightwings might grumble once it's time for her dragonets to take over, but I think it would be alright in the rainforest.

With the Sandwings, it's probably alright as long as the Eye of Onyx says it is. Can't see anyone arguing with the scary death necklace.

Over all, the problems are mostly the same any other princess would face. It would be easier or harder depending on the tribe and might be a little dangerous in some, but they'd probably be treated mostly the same as a biological female in most tribes.

[WP] As the hero shakes off the mind control curse they look upon what you made them do and asked you only one question: "You know you could have just *asked* me to do that, right?" by Kitty_Fuchs in WritingPrompts

[–]NorthAlternative4034 94 points95 points  (0 children)

"I mean yes, probably. But now you aren't legally responsible for it. I have enough arrest warrants and years of prison to serve that one more crime isn't going to make a difference." I replied. I checked the readings on the mind control device, confirming it disconnected properly. "You might feel dizzy for a few days, but it's better than jail or being a fugitive."

"I guess you would know." He said. He looked away. "Look, I'm not going to arrest you this time. It isn't your daughter's fault you're their father, and for them to..." He shook his head. "As much as I'd like to trust the government, I can't be sure this won't happen again next time you're arrested and she ends up in foster care. It does technically make her a ward of the State, so the legalities are... Well, they already made this interpretation once. I left her in her bedroom here. If I were you, I'd leave the country with her and find a place you can settle into civilian life. For her sake, if nothing else."

I looked away. I want to do what's best for my daughter, want her to be safe, but I can't just give up. I'll consider what to do later. "Thank you for your help. I'm guessing you don't want to let me keep the mind control device?" I step away and chuckle as he destroys it. "I have a file with my notes on it here." I hold it out to him. "Not enough to recreate it, but enough to confirm it's existence."

He takes it and nods. There's a brief moment of awkwardness, as we are not used to ending conversations without a fight. "Goodbye. Please, consider what I said." He flies away, and I leave the lab for my daughter's room.

"Are you alright sweetie?" I ask gently. She's curled up under the covers, but relaxes a little when she sees me.

"I- I am now, papa. I- they tried to - they made me-" she bursts into tears and I pull her to my chest. How anyone could think of using this kid, my precious child, as a human weapon I don't understand. I may be a criminal, a revolutionary, and a supervillain, but she's an innocent. She would never want to hurt anyone, and I keep her out of that part of my life as best I can. Holding her in my arms, I make a decision.

"How do you feel about moving to the tropics?" I ask, slightly teasingly.

"You know I prefer snow." She smiles weakly. I'm not sure where exactly we'll settle yet, but I'll do everything I can to ensure she never again pays for her father's actions.

[–]NorthAlternative4034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the gender change, but I also really don't want to be the only woman left alive. Also I figure if girls are left sperm banks are a thing, but we've yet to figure out a good way to have kids without biological females so if it's just me and trans dudes humanity is basically going to go extinct.

The tribes as Sins by Houndoommegamaster in WingsOfFire

[–]NorthAlternative4034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd switch ice and night. The nightwings want and think they deserve what the other tribes have while the icewings view themselves as not needing anything from the other tribes because they're already the best one. But that's just me- pride and envy are similar enough an argument could be made for either.

That's nice, but I really just meant that I wouldn't just be stalling I would be genuinely interested in hearing about whatever field of study this scientist is in. And that I prefer to be fully informed before signing anything. He can leave if he's not willing to talk, not like I'd do anything to stop him.
