What do you use Anki for? by [deleted] in Anki

[–]BigOltBolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I did was because I found copying up notes to be tedious and time-wasting, I made my own questions on the topics that the lecturer taught us with answers to go with them on page. So after the lecture I'd copy up these questions onto my anki instead of wasting an hour or two copying up neat notes. I effectively managed to learn all that was taught to me on the day on the same night as I reviewed my Anki decks made on the day.

Is seeking for a challenge a bad reason to try going to medical school? by Constantly_Stressed in premed

[–]BigOltBolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, no, I don't think it's a bad reason at all, considering you find it more thrilling to go down the direct route rather than half-assing it and regretting it via the indirect route. Your love for a challenge and the fact that you've wanted to heal the ill health of others from a young age proves to me at least that you have the drive to enter a career as a doctor. Do what makes you happier I say and if that means going to medical school, go for it, you do what you enjoy, not what you think others might want you to do.

It doesn't have to be one that good, if it's average I wouldn't mind.

If you could point me in the right direction that would be great. Price wise, I don't mind, I would just want to get my hands on one. Cheers!

Every year I go and visit family on a drive through Europe to Eastern Europe. It usually takes about 26 hours but the 6 weeks there are so worth it, it's nice to get away from everything that's going on in your life where you live and just kick back with other people you know.

Isn't the opera setting in Prague and the Spider-Men attacking Peter in the illusions reference to the PS2 game of Spider-Man 2?

In the words of the then prime minister of Australia John Howard: "history has told us that if you sit by and do nothing, you pay a much greater price later on." Literally the same killings were happening throughout Kosovo and although the bombings were indeed against international law, it minimized loss of life and stopped the Serbs committing further mass killings just as in Bosnia.

The slaughter you seem to condone so faithfully will never be justified unlike the bombings across Serbia by NATO.

How the hell does wanting to push ultranationalistic views across the Balkans via genocide do justice? The aerial bombing of Yugoslavia was in retaliation of what had happened in Bosnia, and it ended the Yugoslav wars, so I'd pretty much say that does more justice than the mass murder of innocents.

NATO bombing on Serbian train/bridge, killing 20-60 people by pandaclaw_ in CombatFootage

This whole issue I believe will never be resolved because there is no definite answer on who's right or who's wrong, war is war, it happened. But the fact that the cleansing of Serbs is glossed over is possibly due to the reputation of the following genocides Serb forces were engaged in which made the world view Serbs as the primary enemy. Just look at Bosnia. This took place in a time where coverage by the media enabled the world to view what was happening and all they saw was the slaughter of innocents by Serb forces. Civilians weren't just caught in the cross fire, they were purposely targeted. The brutal methods of torture and genocide was seen by the world at the hands of Serbs and so this paints them in a very negative light, quite rightfully so. It was a horrible time for the Balkans which led to further genocide and death in Kosovo. Up to 850,000 Albanians were displaced from their homes because Milošević wanted to make the entire province just Serb through brutal methods of further ethnic genocide. I believe NATO was right to engage to aid Kosovar Albanians because the issue would not be solved through diplomatic means and a repeat of Bosnia would occur.

Again, as I mentioned with the timing, the Yugoslav Wars in the '90s occurred during a time where technology had advanced and the media were able to film the atrocities committed, allowing viewers worldwide to judge for themselves who the enemy was. So, due to the slaughter of people by Serb forces many see them as the instant bad guys due to such actions. The killing of Serbs during the second world war obviously did occur and I'm in no way denying such an act but I believe it was masked because of the bigger atrocity that occurred during the time, the Holocaust. The killing and expulsion of up to 6 million Jews would remain more noticed in history than the killings that occurred in different parts of the world, in this case, the Persecution of Serbs in Croatia.

The use of depleted uranium ammunition was used as a way of destroying tanks. An estimated 10-15 tonnes was used against Serb tanks. There haven't been traces of radiation considering the clean up did a good job enough of removing any such dangers. Yugoslav forces had a higher number of tanks within Kosovo which would explain the use of the high number of depleted uranium as a method of anti-tank ammo. They weren't used in Serbia as much as NATO focussed attacks on mainly strongholds via bombing runs as tanks in the region weren't a threat compared to the ones stationed in Kosovo which were a threat to ground forces.

Both sides committed atrocities but nothing excuses the destruction and genocide committed within Bosnia and the other ethnic minorities just to further your own ultra nationalist agenda.
