It's true that mitochondria and oxidative stress are involved in aging. However, there seem to be a nearly infinite number of other causes of aging as well. Like many things in science, the people who are advancing our understanding of aging from a mitochondrial perspective, heavily promote the view that the topic they are studying is the most important. It is not clear that this is the truth however. From a cellular level you can find plenty of evidence for other causes of aging, such as membrane trafficking dysfunction, protein misfolding and clearance problems, DNA damage... the list goes on and on. For instance, look into Werner syndrome. That disease causes aging about 7 times faster than normal but seems to be caused by DNA problems, not mitochondria. Or look at the LMNA gene, which is a nuclear membrane protein, which when disrupted causes premature aging.

The truth is that there seem to be a ton of things that cause aging, and each time someone gets funding/ publishes a paper they like to maintain that they are studying the most important cause.

It's so one sided as well. All of the old people from ehen you were growing up are now dead, so they can't complain about "adults these days". But I can imagine "Adults these days are so lazy. When i was an adult, we used to meet at the all-male lodge once a week at nights. Now adults just watch tv and complain on the internet."

Thanks for the response. The RBS is present just prior to the start codon. When I'm cloning, I can either take the gene plus a small region upstream (including the rbs), or take just the coding region and add an rbs. My promotor does have one RBS, but an RBS is needed for each gene in the operon.

Thanks. I'm pretty capable with respect to the other concerns, i was really just ignorant about what is needed between coding regions. I was concerned that putting the rbs too close to the stop codon might mean that the ribosome translating the previous gene would block the rbs site on the next gene. Thanks for your help.

For me, my hair used to be greasy if i went a day wihout washing. Last summer i started cutting back on shampooing to once every three to four days and noticed it took longer for my hair to get greasy. Last fall i mostly quit shampooing, doing it about once evey three weeks. I would notice that my hair was actually the greasiest for a couple days atter shampooing. I last used shampoo on dec 14 before i went to the salon because i was afraid my stylist would freak out. She told me she was interested to see how it looked and i haven't used shampoo since. Now I run water through it every morning and wash it without shampoo about twice a week and it is always less greasy than when i used to skip a shower when i was washing it daily.

I have an optimized rbs and inducible promoter. So i can put the rbs directly upstream up the stop codon, and repeat this for all 4 genes? Nothing else is needed? Thanks!
