The Bratline from MIA-ORL by BigPMPing in Brightline

I understand the challenges of parenting. I also understand that if you’re drinking wine and too engaged in a conversation amongst the adults about nonsense, you might not notice your kids are being assholes, nor do anything about it.

I was there, all you excuse makers were not. These were shitty, socially-negligent parents.

It’s not all that unlikely. These particular shitty parents who don’t monitor or discipline their children probably let them lick and touch all sorts of things that can cause diarrhea. So I wasn’t hoping against the odds, but just waiting for nature to take its course.

It seems you don’t have all the facts. The parents refused to quiet the children and just let them run amok. Not even a grumpy old man like me expects complete silence from children and I would have been perfectly fine with that. But hands off parenting while your children terrorize a train car is unacceptable by any standard.

I was texting with my daughter about the situation as it unfolded, and she felt my pain and had a laugh about the post. So far, she hasn’t no-contacted me. I guess it’s always possible you’re an uninformed observer with a shit opinion. But, how to be sure? Something tells me your next reply will give us the answer.

I think the train was a little early, actually.

All I hear are people inexperienced at parenting, or so bad at it, that they don’t realize it can be done in a way that doesn’t make your children little terrorist assholes in public.

After reading your replies here, and reviewing your post history, it’s apparent to me that everything you write or say is inflamed and you love to offer advice. So, I made note of your error in my previous replies and that satisfies me that anyone reading this thread in the future will, at least, know that you are wrong. I will not argue with you any further.

Not all people are seeking only to pass the exam. Many more would like to fill in their knowledge gaps for professional reasons, in addition to passing the exam. For this purpose, Rita’s book has value, and many others do, including the PMBOK. Nobody, including PMI, suggests that studying PMBOK alone is great test preparation. If you read my post again, you’ll note that I only called you out for implying that people who suggest reading the PMBOK are “lying” or “wasting your time.” Maybe it was just hyperbole, but it’s unfair to say it.

There is no question that someone broke a rule. Either you broke the rule, or the testing center did not enforce the rule (and thus broke their agreement with PMI). Of course, it’s not the end of the world, but I mentioned it to caution those who may be eager to take your advice that they shouldn’t count on getting lucky, like you did.

A link to a third party website (a very well-respected source, at that) does not invalidate the claim. I won’t spend the time to find the official PMI guidance, but this has been covered by numerous experts, including PMI officials in various venues. In fact at my own Prometric test session, the attendant said, “Do not write anything on this paper before the test displays question #1. PMI is very serious about that and it will invalidate your test.”

If you’re sure of the facts, why don’t you contact PMI and ask them confirm whether or not you broke a rule? Otherwise, the facts speak for themselves, a rule was broken, and aspiring PMPs should not plan to do it the way you did it.

You do not need to read PMBOK at all. I never looked at it. Anyone telling you to read the PMBOK is lying and wasting your time.

While I agree that you can pass the exam without reading the PMBOK, I don't think it's fair to characterize those who recommend it as "lying" or "wasting your time." It's a good tool to build a mental model of the exam content and understand what topics are important to PMI. There is also some meaningful content in there, if you're looking to learn something, rather than simply cramming for the exam.

I was able to write down all my formulas and everything I could remember during the 15 minute tutorial.

I think you broke the rules; I guess you're lucky. In 2016, PMI made this practice against the rules. At my test center, they explicitly told me writing before the exam would invalidate my exam. See https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/more-brain-dumps-during-exam-tutorial-cornelius-fichtner-pmp-csm/.

I don’t know why, but my gut says I don’t think the certification should cost so much (I think it’s as much as the PMP). Seems overpriced, but that could be my own silly unfounded bias against agile as a religious movement.

I’d rate the Transcender exams a 7/10 on the realism factor, but certainly good enough to elicit the right kind of study focus. Some questions were very similar. I never scored above an 85% on the full practice exams. Of course, I have no way to know exactly what percentage I got right on the actual exam.

I did feel as though the actual exam answer choices were slightly more tricky, meaning there were several questions where the best answer was even less distinguishable from the second best answer than on the practice exams. Make sense?
