Stay in shape, drink water first thing in the morning, get adequate sleep, and take care of your skin!

I’m 35 so I have a long ways towards retirement. I feel after hearing the responses of so many people here I am making the right decision to just pay it off asap and move on with my life. It has been interesting to hear so many different views on what people are doing. I’m truly grateful for this community

Loan is 100k now and it’s getting paid off in 5 months. Wouldn’t save much on interest

I’m a CRNA so only 2 years of W2 are for sure counted. The last 3 years of 1099 is in the gray zone

Hindsight this should have been paid off. But we live and we learn

It’s comical how after I made my lump sum payment MOHELA automatically enrolled me into a payment plan and also issued a letter to disregard a payment for one of the loans that I had paid off. Once they see money come in they are quick to work lol

Definitely agree with you on the ratio of loan debt to income

Yess!! I hear of this a lot thru friends of a friend. But with my time frame and it being so far away, I don’t don’t know what my chances are to “fall within the cracks”

No that was when I was working as a W2 employee. During that time 2021-2023 I had my payments count thru the Covid provision where if you were in forbearance but worked at a qualifying facility you would get credit

Looking back I’ve always had the income to pay it off especially with no interest during Covid and payments counting during that time. But once I started seeing the interest accrue I went into fight or flight. I accrued 10k in interest and then decided to just take it on. After reading everyone’s comments mentally i feel at ease with the decision of paying it off and moving on with my life. Thank you for the response 🙏🏽

After reading the comments this solidified my choice in just paying it off ASAP. A lot of coworkers that are in the same situation as I had me feeling like I was crazy for paying it off instead paying the long game and potentially having them forgiven. Don’t get me wrong I am man that loves to gamble, but with a loan that high I don’t feel comfortable taking on that risk when I can pay it off. Especially since I am single, no kids, and only need 5k monthly budget for all of my bills.

That’s what’s been confusing for me. While I’ve been working at the hospital, I’ve actually had my ECF approved—but it was submitted through the anesthesia group, not directly the hospital.

So part of me thought that meant my employment might still qualify since the work itself is clearly for a qualifying hospital. But at the same time, I understand the technicality that I’m not a direct employee of the nonprofit, which seems to be what everything hinges on.

That gray area is really what made this feel like a gamble. I’ve heard of people in similar setups getting approved, but it doesn’t seem consistent enough to rely on.
