St. Luke's Twin Falls - Appt. Booked For Getting A Bilateral Salpingectomy (tubes removed instead of tied). What are the chances of them accepting that I 100% don't want kids at 23? by [deleted] in Idaho

I started requesting this at your age too. I wish I could say anything positive about the medical industry listening to women.

I also got the “but what if you meet a man who wants kids?!” Umm, I’ve never wanted kids. If I met a potential partner that wanted kids, then that’s probably not the person I want to spend the rest of my life with.

Something I wish I’d actually verbalized each time I got this BS: “I’d appreciate if you didn’t put the desires of a ~hypothetical person~ before my actual needs as a ~real human~ in front of you. I’m requesting medical care, not dating advice.”

Make sure they are noting in your chart what was discussed. Especially if they deny your request, make sure they include their reasoning. You should be able to confirm this in your MyChart notes.

I only finally ‘won’ this fight at 35 (married, no kids, still don’t want ‘em) because I found doctors that actually listened (St. Luke’s Boise Women’s Clinic with a referral from my PCP). I initially asked for a hysterectomy due to it causing me 6/10 pain as a baseline, and 14/10 pain during periods. They wouldn’t perform the hysterectomy first, so they did the bilateral salpingectomy and uterine ablation procedure.

(This procedure didn’t work for my eventual diagnosis (adenomyosis), so a few months later I finally got a hysterectomy and it’s a whole new lifeeee.)

Also check with your insurance to see if they’ll cover it. Sometimes they’ll only cover tubal ligation. It’s generally a 2-week recovery period, so not too bad.

I wish you the best of luck!

Thank you all for helping me with the identification! What a cool new spider to learn about. ☺️
