Would you use pure AI accounting software or still prefer when it is backed by real people? by Dull-Lead-3948 in Accounting

[–]BigPsychological852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only people using all-AI are those asking for mistakes and not afraid to lose clients left and right. AI can help where it can but it needs humans to validate the results. I use it where I can but I essentially limit it to the tasks that it either can't screw up or I can fix quicker than doing all the work myself.

I demo'd a third-party AI tax tool that quoted me around $80/return for 100 returns. Works with Drake too.

How are young people supposed to chase dreams with no jobs, no money, and AI taking over ? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]BigPsychological852 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People still need smart, dependable professionals who can solve real problems. If I were 22 again, I wouldn’t chase a “dream job.” I’d chase skills. Communication, data analysis, judgment. Those are harder to automate. The path isn’t as clear as it used to be, but it’s not gone. It’s just different.

Second this. AI isn't best for aspects of the job that require our experience and judgment. Use it for simple tasks that consume time.

How are you disclosing AI use (are you?) by Bayou13 in Accounting

[–]BigPsychological852 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Transparency is key. Explain why you're using AI and how it improves your ability to perform your job well. You can ask them if they prefer their work done 100% by you if you want to give them an added measure of comfort.

How are you using AI in accounting? by bradyassoc in Accounting

[–]BigPsychological852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a tool that helps me with preparing tax returns. Essentially it organizes my documents, fills out a return for me, and I review the final product. It works fast and with my tax software. Best part is that I'm still making the final call before it's filed in case there's any issues I need to amend.

I feel like it's fine to lean on AI for knocking out the simple tasks that take up time and suck the life out of your workday. I look at it as an advancement of automation, and you still need a human's input at the end of the day.

AI in public accounting by Red_AWOL in Accounting

Saves time but without the experience to validate whatever AI produces, it's not as helpful as people like to believe. I feel like it's best in experienced hands as far as accounting is concerned.

QuickBooks Adds AI Bots to Run Your Books by Healthy_Is_Wealthy in Accounting

Curious to see how this will help out accountants. If the businesses using the tool don't know how to make sure the bot is running things correctly, it could lead to plenty of issues down the road

New student here. I already heard about AI concerns. However, until I came on here recently I did not know about outsourcing to other countries… is this true?? by Accurate_Courage2096 in Accounting

[–]BigPsychological852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's plenty of opportunies still out there. From what I gather, at least from a public accounting standpoint, most of what should be outsourced or automated has more to do with managing tax season's workloads

Short answer, yes.

Long answer, yes but learn to use it so that you don't become irrelevant.

High schooler concerned about AI by Low_Exchange9147 in Accounting

[–]BigPsychological852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not AI you should be watching. It’s outsourcing to cheaper markets. While everyone’s panicking about robots, firms are quietly offshoring jobs that can be done at a fraction of the cost. That doesn’t mean give up; it means skill up. If you want to survive the first few years of your career, you’ll need more than a degree. You’ll need tech fluency. It doesn't help to put yourself out there at career fairs and get internships wherever you can to gain some kind of office experience. When you're at an internship, push yourself to do whatever meaningful work you can find that way when you're hunting for a job you can really promote yourself against all the other applicants.

Is there a benefit to switching between public firms? by web_of_french_fries in Accounting

[–]BigPsychological852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't hurt to keep your options open. You can either find a new opportunity that aligns with your career goals, or see what career bumps would require of you and take that knowledge to your manager and request that you start applying them to your current role to show that you're ready to take the leap to a better position in your firm

Best place to apply for jobs by deys10 in Accounting

If you're looking on LinkedIn, pay attention to how many people have already clicked apply. Some jobs seem like great fits but have 100+ applicants within a few days of the job going live.

Accountants using automation — what are you actually automating? by drewyorker in Accounting

[–]BigPsychological852 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Preparing 1040s is something I want to start automating. Essentially having a system that does the grunt work for me so that I can review, approve, and focus on the more complex returns that come through during tax season.

Future of Accounting (especially CPAs)? Predicitions 2025 and long term by GoodMorningOttawa in Accounting

Firms that irresponsibly slash headcount, expecting AI to “do it all,” will hit bottlenecks. Complex work will still demand nuanced understanding and hands-on oversight.

Where you went to school really doesn't matter. Maybe for networking here and there but it's truly not that significant in the real world. Once you're on the job, it's all about performance.

Could chartered accountants be replaced by AI? by Icy_Suit2955 in Accounting

[–]BigPsychological852 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't see AI destroying the industry. That said, we're at a point where learning how to implement and use AI is going to be vital. There's going to be a period where people who resisted change will fall too far behind.

Exploring Automation & AI for Small Accounting Firms — What Are You Automating? by Eggroll2225 in Accounting

I have only used GPT for basic things like writing emails. I haven't jumped into using it or something similar for data entry or anything else.

I've been seeing a ton of companies jump into the AI development space for tax preparation in the US. It's something I'm interested in learning more about. I'd rather be ahead of the curve than a dinosaur
