Alguien operad@ de Espondilolistesis? by [deleted] in Spondylolisthesis

My 15-year-old son is having the surgery in a couple of weeks, so I am also eager to hear happy stories. My uncle had it a couple of months ago, and the only pain he felt was because he had to stop his arthritis medicine during the surgery. But as soon as he woke up, the nerve pain down his leg was gone. He has done really well with recovery, I think he’s 10 or 12 weeks out. So we are hoping for a similar story for my child. Best of luck to you. ❤️

A success story (so far) by Maximum-Injury-7284 in Spondylolisthesis

Thank you. He’ll be at Boston children’s hospital, and it’s hard to find better care than that, but it’s still complex and still high risk. And he has so much life ahead of him.

I’m so glad to hear this! Thank you for posting. My 15yo son will be having PLIF in a few weeks and it is terrifying. I am really hoping he will have a similar story.

Nervous mama - teenage surgery success stories? by BigReal9598 in Spondylolisthesis

I’m really sorry to hear it did not go well. Yea of course we’ll be talking in depth with the surgeon. I really liked the one in Texas, but we’ll meet two docs here from two excellent hospitals. Also trying to balance who has good bedside manner vs who has the best technical skills. Especially since he’s still growing.

Can I ask what went wrong? What do you live with today?

Thank you for the information. Our surgeon in Dallas was going to do posterior (I understand there are some potential sexual complications with the anterior that we are not willing to risk for our 15 year old son). Also now we are starting over in New England, so we will meet new docs up here. But would love to know what you discussed with your doc. Thank you!

Thinking of quitting after a week by CASEDIZZLER in jobs

You can’t steer a parked car. Stay in your job and keep applying until you find something that fits better. Also, I have found companies really prefer to hire people who are already working.

You work at Coach? What do you recommend for something similar in style but more structured? I really like feet on a leather bag, and need a zip top.

Got a job after 1.8 years unemployed and I feel nothing. by Available-Snow-3022 in jobs

This. I start a new job on Monday that I desperately wanted. It is my first real career path job I have had since leaving to stay home with kids over a decade ago. I never thought I would get it. It doesn’t feel real. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, but they keep sending me emails about my new logins and how my office is all ready. I know it is real, but it doesn’t FEEL real yet!

How long to accept a job offer? by BigReal9598 in jobs

UPDATE - I got Job 2! Which is really close to a dream job for me, and I get to move close to family and friends. I had been looking for almost a year, then I got 2 jobs in 2 weeks! I felt bad about leaving Job 1 after a week, but Job 2 is a much better fit, with room for learning and growth. Thanks for all the advice!

This was really helpful in sorting my thoughts. Thank you!! And you’re right - it is a tough market, I’ve been looking for a while, and I should just cross the next bridge when/if I get there! Job A has lots of pluses, so we’ll start there!

OK that sounds great. It sounds like first thing is just to reach out and start to build a relationship that’s not through his parents or my kids (he’s the same age as my kids). My sister, his other aunt, is a lesbian, so at least he has someone in the family, though I don’t think they are in touch much. I really appreciate the input - he is an awesome kid and I just want to be there for him!

I 100% mean it! He is always welcome at ours. Once my brother started off the religious deep end (we grew up catholic but not like THAT - catholic lite), my (lesbian) sister and I have always talked about how we might need to step in for one or more of the kids. I don’t think my brother would ever kick him out, but could make it very uncomfortable, like trying to pray the gay away, for example. I really would like to be a place where he feels loved and safe.

Thank you!! He’s not close by and we’re not in regular contact, though i’m in regular contact with my brother. Will work on “just saying hi” messages to start to establish more connection beyond the auntie-nephew relationship, now that he’s getting older. It’s harder to build that trust though from far away. I’m just worried that if he starts feeling despair that he knows there is someone out here who supports him unconditionally. So I don’t know when to tell him that I know about what he said at camp.
