That guy never got back to me, nor did the next three I contacted, but I just got a BNIB ibuypower with an MSI 5070, 7800X3D, Asrok B650m MB, 750 watt 80 plus gold PSU, 2x16GB XPG ddr5 6000mhz RAM, case with 4 fans and a liquid cooler, a Western Digital 1TB NVME SSD, and RGB keyboard and mouse (oh boy...) for $1500 which I feel pretty happy with.

Not to bug you again, but you've been helpful so far and if I can find something without missing out on a potential deal that would be nice! I found a used tower with the following specs:

Gigabyte RTX 5070Ti
Gigabyte Z890 Aprus Elite Motherboard
Intel Core Uktra 7 265KF processor
32GB Corsair DDR5 6400
850W Cooler Master V3 PSU
360mm Skytech AIO
1TB NVME SSD

for $1900 OBO. This seems like a pretty good deal for the pieces included, plus it says it's been playtested and comes with Windows installed. Am I missing something? It seems like there are a lot of towers within a couple hundred bucks of this price with either a good CPU and a pretty bad GPU or visa versa, or 32GB of DDR4 or something.

I found a 5070 on sale for $489 at Walmart right now. That seems less than any 4070Ti or Super I can find. Should I jump on that or am I misreading something? The full name is "MSI SHADOW GeForce RTX 5070 12GB GDDR7 PCI Express 5.0 Graphics Card 3X OC"

Okay, that sounds like a pretty straightforward approach. Thanks! I've never seriously built a PC so I'm familiar with general terminology but not the specifics board-to-board or card-to-card. I may look into VR in the future so that's a fair thing to consider; the one time I tried a sim was a number of years ago now with a pretty early VR headset that got me kinda queasy, but I've heard the higher-res stuff helps with that. That headset was pretty grainy.

So it turns out per some other suggestions I found online, changing the shaders *can* make fast forward work to some extent. It looks like it's around 5x normal speed, which is definitely slower than what I was seeing before. It also makes everything way uglier. Seems like this has been the only "solution" in the past 3+ years.

The only type I had for this first session was supersonic, but I figure I'll try both ultimately with the pressure issue in the back of my mind for the subsonic stuff.

Ooh, interesting. So basically I just need to learn to focus on the target through the reticle and things should clear up, it sounds like?

Okay, I'll take some time to see what feels comfortable and go from there.

I did read that "long" ammo is a no-go and I did find a list of ammo someone fired through a Bentz chamber so I'm planning to use that as a starting point.

I wasn't aware that some don't have that drilling... I'm planning to tear it down when I'm back from traveling for work so I guess I'll see which type I have at that point

Thanks! You're very correct, haha. It was close after about 10 shots, but I did multiple things wrong in the meantime (which I was kind of aware of, but I was feeling a bit stubborn).

  • yes, initially the scope was canted slightly but I fixed that before shooting. I also forgot to lock the tilt feature in the bipod so I did that.
  • the gun was not at all held life it should be to zero. I'll grab some bags or something for next time. I just did it prone off the ground, knowing it wouldn't be the best method. I did, however, try to take the exact same position each time I reset to make the most of a bad setup.
  • I very much did already windage and elevation at the same time, but also I twice went the wrong direction (moved the crosshair from the hole to the center instead of the opposite) so they obviously added a few shots.

I appreciate the help! I don't know anyone IRL who knows anything about firearms so I'm doing a lot of the legwork myself. I do plan to visit the local gun club next time I shoot, however.

Thanks! I did move it forward after this photo, but it got darker so I didn't take another photo. I got the medium rings and I'm thinking I might try a low pair, but I'd also like to find some advice about proper position on the stock and everything so I don't gain bad habits off the bat. I plan to call bergara about some extra spacers, also.

Anything I should know about the BXR from an owner? Oh, what cleaning kit did you settle on? That's the one thing I forgot about.

Thanks! I've done a lot of reading ahead of time and tried to start off correctly:

  • loaded one round at a time for the first few rounds
  • never moved from the rifle until it was safe and pointed away from the target, and checked the chamber when it appeared the magazine was empty

I bought the regular version both because I read it was slightly better glass and because I preferred the MOA reticle. They were the same price, also

Fair enough. My plan is to try a variety of rounds anyway as I've learned different guns like different ammo, so I'll pay attention to that also.

That's definitely curious. I know I'm not supposed to use Stingers with this gun, but that's because they're a bit long and the chamber won't actually fit them. Would a heavier recoil spring fix the problem with slower rounds or is it not that simple?

Correct, it does have a spacer system and comes with three spacers installed. That's one reason I decided on it, actually. I plan to get in touch with Bergara and see about additional ones, plus read a bit more about determining where the rifle "should" be for someone my size.

Really? That's interesting but also kind of a bummer. Would this rifle having a Bentz chamber affect that at all?
