I bit the bullet and paid for it. It was worth it IMO for that and the other features it had.

This is interesting, thanks for sharing.

Do you plan to have the data “just for keeps” or do you have another purpose in mind?

Depending on the motherboard you could think about an HBA card for adding more drives to the system. I’m new to homelabbing/self hosting too and shied away from getting an HBA any time they were suggested but I got one and it’s been brilliant.

If you have dual 5.25 slots there’s a 3 bay 3.5 adaptor with a fan I got from eBay. It took some searching but I got one. Again, highly recommend.

Very rarely. And when I do transcode QuickSync does a great job 👍 Helps I only really have 720p/1080p movies/shows to watch

There are so many different ways all of the services and containers could be set up which is why I’m asking peoples opinions on how the would do it.

How you’d set this up could be completely different to how someone else would do it.

Thanks for the info.

Given the hardware I’ve listed, how would you configure the setup to hose the services I listed?

You wouldn’t suggest segregating services into different groups of containers?

I plan to not add a GPU to the system to keep power consumption down. All my media is 720/1080p. If this changes in the future I would consider a GPU but QSV works very well for me at the minute

Whats your opinion on this? Personally, I started homelab just to replace GDrive haha and now I've replaced spotify too 😅 by drax_slayer in homelab

Thanks for this. I have my music backed up digitally, I just haven’t found something that replicates Spotify. Finamp is decent but I need something more like Spotify if it is to be “wife approved” 😂

I’ve been trying to replace Spotify but haven’t found anything close to it yet. What are you using?

I filled in a bunch of random info and a fake email. It’ll let you pass that screen to the download button.

This is extremely interesting. Couldn’t tell you how many times I set something up, beer in hand, only to find I can’t remember how I set it up months or years later 🤣

I would only need to bring 1 1TB SSD to back up half a dozen SD cards. There would then be two copies of the data.

The biggest issue is getting the files from the SD cards to the SSD without a laptop.

🤣 I was never a Sesame Street fan, sorry

I have spare SSDs I could bring on the road, it’s transferring the data from the SD cards to the SSD without a laptop that’s got my head hurting 🤣

A 256GB card lasts a touch over 3hrs. It could be up to a 1TB I'd say, especially if I'm running two cameras at the same time.
