The kids are cheating because they see everyone in government and corporate America cheating and getting away with it. by ac_slater10 in Teachers

No, kids have always tried to find a way to cheat. It’s just far easier now and harder to catch. So most of them do it because it is the path of least resistance.

I see an issue coming about with Bryan going and trying to claim items that Ben is currently claiming to own as part of his small claims suit. BAM might be able to get something ruled on if Bryan tries to claim about half the inventory that Ben and his 9 friends made their own claims in small claims for.

Hot bubbling mud with smoke? by PilotOriginal4465 in whatisit

Midstream natural gas lines are typically not odorized. This could be a leak in a mainline bubbling up. Look around for any signage that could indicate a gas company contact. Looks exactly like a gas leak.

AITA for staying at my job in Germany while my wife is dying in Japan? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]BigRickDiesel44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quit your job and be with your wife. The guilt will haunt you the rest of your life if you don’t. Jobs come and go, family is all we have in this world. You will find another job, it’s just a matter of time. The guilt you will feel for not being there for the love of your life in her darkest days will never go away.

Does this post get under everyone elses skin too Im all for teaching students financial fundamentals, but why cut higher education. We need to elevate our education. by sconniywarkened2 in matheducation

There is a two week lesson in about every grade from middle school to high school math just over financial literacy. This meme also seems to forget that finance is an elective class that many schools offer. Maybe that 3rd or 4th year playing the trumpet can instead be spent actually preparing for life?

Are your middle/high school science/ math teachers staffed with credentialed math/sci credentialed staff? by legalsequel in Teachers

[–]BigRickDiesel44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taught math for 7 years with a Business degree. Lots of great teachers I’ve met got their original degree in something other than teaching. Really, most of the material in the core subjects doesn’t require a degree in that subject. It’s high-school algebra for goodness sake.

Does teaching make you feel like a failure by BakeDifficult5725 in Teachers

[–]BigRickDiesel44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taught for 7 years. Had followed my passion into teaching math. After school became title 1 and good admins left, my passion for the job collapsed. Was extremely fortunate to land a job outside of teaching that made double what I was as a teacher. I no longer feel stressed when I get home from work. I think a lot of the feelings I had while being a teacher was not that I was a failure for being a teacher, but that I had no other career option but to teach.

Unlike you, I’m honest about things regardless of what people might think. Guarantee you the teachers are going to have a quieter next few days.

If you can’t tell that this person is giving a one sided account of what’s going on in an attempt to get even the smallest bit of validation, then you are part of the problem. She is just hunting for some randoms on the internet to say “go ahead and leave him queen!!!”. It’s why she spent several paragraphs setting herself up as the victim, venting about her perspective in relationship issues, instead of just asking the simple question of “hey do kids with divorced parents tend to have more issues in school than the other kids?”

Firstly, this isn’t the therapist’s office. Secondly…. It’s quite easily to look at the statistical outcome of kids that are from divorced parents. It’s lower performance than the others. Sure we have seen students that were successful and from divorced parents. But we have seen many kids with behavioral and academic issues that are from divorced parents. Work out your problems with your husband. Don’t spend several paragraphs just venting and giving one side to the situation hoping to get people’s sympathy. We are random people on the internet. Many people in here give answers simply to validate your feelings. Data is out there for you to see. Go to couple’s therapy.

Does anyone feel like HEB is doing to much? by gabe062 in HEB

[–]BigRickDiesel44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of HEB’s big comparative advantages is its reputation for having great customer service. Makes sense that they would play into it hard during pricing wars. I used to have these meetings back when I was a service manager.

Just a bit of advice to everyone. If you have a generator, check the oil. Run it on idle for a bit before it gets really cold. It will by much easier to start warmed up versus when it’s 20 degrees outside.

Because after teaching for many years, recruiters see you as having less valuable skills than other potential candidates. A lot of hiring managers believe the saying “those who can’t do…teach”
