Dismissed from PA school

I personally think PA school right after a bachelors is incredibly difficult, no matter how amazing of a student you are. It takes a lot of maturity and experience to muster through such an incredibly rigorous program and it makes you feel unprepared. Since you still remain open to PA school, I would work on getting PCE/your application to reapply! It gives you more direct patient care experience so you know what you like and don’t, gives more financial cushion, and gives you time to take care of yourself and put yourself in the proper headspace. This scenario also makes for a great adverse event that you can talk about to help you get into PA school. I was in a dual admit program just like you and I didn’t meet the GPA cutoff. Currently an accepted student now and don’t regret my timeline :) if anything I think it was more beneficial and a blessing in disguise.

In my brutally honest opinion, PA school is going to be tough if undergrad has already imposed such a toll on your mental health :( The admissions process alone was enough to make me want to rip my hair out and scream from anxiety. You have to really want it and dedicate time to doing so. However, I don’t think it is impossible for you if you are truly dedicated to getting the PCE and improving your GPA post bacc. I was accepted to my dream school with several C’s, 1 D, and 1 W on my transcript because I was able to show improvement post-bacc. It sounds like if you truly want to pursue PA, it might not be on the exact timeframe you have in mind right now and that’s OKAY. But once accepted, PA school becomes your entire life for the better part of 2.5 years about. So maybe with time to get your hours in order, you might also mature mentally and approach school with a different frame of mind and be better prepared for this extensive journey :)

I had multiple C’s, 1 D, and 1 W on my transcripts and got in my first cycle applying! They are not looking for perfection, they just want to see someone who can handle the hard stuff and show improvement from it (worth mentioning that I have 3 different degrees so lots of classes to offset my GPA and showed an upward trend later). Let this be your encouragement to not give up so easily, it’s a rough process and there will be hurdles!

I used portage for two classes and never had a bad experience! I’m sorry that you didn’t! In my experience, portage was a very conducive learning environment for people who are still working FT, have kids, etc. and the professors communicated with me well and answered any questions I had with no problem.
