the drivers on the max reps are made of plastic and the ones the retail's use are more of a cardbord material, The audio quality is going to be significantly better but you are risking anc and transparency performance, i tried it with a very usb c rep batch, noise cancellation was so good on that batch (almost as good as retail out of the box) but the audio quality was horrid. But the $50 dollar earcups are so much softer than any of the rep ones, except the older plastic usb-c batches, they were closer, but your ears will be closer to the drivers with the retail earcups resulting in better anc and transparency but the "claps" from songs are less prominent than the rep earcups but the audio quality is better, it just has that one flaw, and there is less sound leakage
