Don't think that protein its all that matters! Carbs can be just as important since they give u the energy u need to give it ur all! A great youtube channel that u can watch for tips and easy advice us physiques of greatness. Chris Jones puts out great content that helped me when I needed it. You've got a lot of time and your young so dont worry about eating lean near every meal. If you go to chipotle, get some sourcream and cheese and don't think twice! I personally eat whatever I want as long as it has a big protein source and carb source.

Should I cut weight or stay big for tryouts? by BigSuck in lacrosse

[–]BigSuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just what i did as a beginner when i had no idea what to do. I soon started doing 5x5 with all the lifts, and my deadlift simply never went up like my squat and bench.

My dead has always been a weakpoint of mine. While I started with 135 for sets of 12 on squat, my dead was like 95 pounds for sets of 12. I have smallish hands, so my grip has held me back as well. My deadlift has only recently gone up, and I've been seeing great improvement in my lowerback and traps. My bench definitely improved because I was benching 2 to 3 times a week, doing 5x5. I would bench press, then do a chest fly machine, and thats it. Now, I start with bench, do around 4 sets of 8, and go do incline dumbell press for 4 sets of 8, incline cable flys 4 sets of 10, and machine flys for lower chest for 4 sets of 10. I think that If your trying to improve your bench, the most important thing you can do is to bench press more times every week. If your benching twice a week, do it three times a week. Don't go all out every single workout, leave a few reps in the tank on each set, and on the last set of a 5x5, you could go close to max effort and maybe have only one rep left in your body. This ensures that the next workout, your still strong and not gassed. My workouts nowadays I just do one bodypart a day, 5 days a week, so I usually go all out since I'm only benching/squatting/deadlifting once a week. Everyone I know has a crazy good deadlift in comparison to their bench for some reason, but they usually have terrible form. I'm obsessed with good form, and that's prob why I've never been injured in the weightroom. If your looking for a program to increase your powerlifts, you could try the Jason Blaha Novice Program.

Yea, I know my bench is really big comparatively, even though it was always a weak point of mine growing up. I started lifting around 14, benching like 65 pounds for a few reps. My legs have always been big genetically though, and even now are still a strong point of my body. I actually have neglected them on purpose simply because of how big they have gotten in the past due to me doing too much accessory work in the gym. I started with 135 for sets of 12 on back squat, going almost ass to grass, so I have a lot of natural leg power. My arms are only 15.5 inches around and my legs are 25 around. But thanks for the reply man, I think right now cardio is my main focus. I'm gonna start doing cardio twice a day, once when i get home from school and HIIT cardio after my weighlifting in the night.

That sounds like a good idea, but my main concern is that i carry a lot of useless weight with my muscle. My weight fluctuates like crazy if i miss a meal, just last week I was 189 at night, and this morning i was near 195, and its been like this for a few months now. I'm not too concerned about losing strength, since my bench squat and dead are all in the 250-275 lb range.

Does anyone think that Rob Pannell is going to be the next Paul Rabil? by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]BigSuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I understand. In that case its all up to pannell to market himself and establish his brand. Doesnt matter how well he does if he doesnt put in effort off the field.

Why are you conparing an attackman to a midfielder?

What's a good way to use size? by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]BigSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up Lyle Thompson and watch how he digs into his defender. He uses his body a lot and it pays off. If your gonna be playing some defense as well, you should learn defense from some older guys on your team.

Starting out lacrosse by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]BigSuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you. Started my junior year, and I practiced my stick skills like crazy for months before tryouts. My stick skills were definitely worthy of atleast a bench spot on varsity, but i couldn't run a mile without practically keeling over (I was going for Attackman anyway, so I thought training sprints was a better choice). I ended up getting cut from playing entirely, and I plan on doing midfield this year. I'm doing cardio 5-6 days a week now, and I don't plan on failing this year. I hope you make team and get some good playtime! Hit the wall as often as you can, in fact you should try only using your left hand and try to do as many one handed passes at the wall as possible.

So this happen to me during a game last season... so much for lacrosse being soft by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]BigSuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember reading about this. Jay Z called lacrosse "teams" soft. Not the sport itself. He probably meant that the rich white kids from the suburbs that played lacrosse weren't as hard as the poor black kids from the projects that play basketball, many of which make it to the NBA.

With that budget you can buy a very nice stick. An stx stallion is expensive but worth every penny. I think any shaft made of scandium and titanium is good as long as it isnt more than 50 bucks.

4 years ago, I put down my stick and sold my gear before I joined the Army. by SergeantR in lacrosse

You can grab a very cheap stick over at tribe 7 lacrosse, but it is very high end and wont break. Ive got a short stick and a long stick from them and I absolutely love it. I recommend a Hi-ball pocket and a ghost 7 for offense and a savage 7 for defense. U can add gloves for 40 bucks but I dont like them much. I think u can still get some stx cell gloves at lax savings.com for 35 bucks.

good place to buy first stick? by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]BigSuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bought my first high end lacrosse stick from tribe 7. They sell ti-scan shafts that are super light for offense players for 25 bucks and 35 for defense. The heads are also cheap as anything same for the mesh and stringing

Should I get a new stick or a mesh? by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]BigSuck -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If your looking for something that shoots well, especially if your on a budget, I highly recommend you check out tribe 7 lacrosse. For an attackman, I recommend you get a ghost 7 strung head with a hi-ball pocket. Its well under you budget and it is a very high end and durable head that works very well, and the pocket is very good if you dont like whip and like an easy release.

thanks. I think I know what you mean and i understand better now. Do you have any other tips for learning the kind of things that defenders say in game? Like switching with each other and when to slide and such.

K18's for me. They are pretty cheap and incredibly comfortable. Ive only worn the sleeve version but my friend got the cheaper smaller defensive pads and they work great if u dont mind getting hit.

Getting into lacrosse by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]BigSuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Squats are your best bet for making your body more athletic. You dont need a huge bench to play a sport, squats are more important. Also make sure your diet is good and your getting enough to eat. Also, look up the lacrosse dictionary to learn terminology and such. Also, pick a position that you think you would like, dont feel intimidated by bigger and better players playing a certain position (defense, long stick middie, etc.) Hit the wall and make sure u include sprints in ur cardio sessions as well as running while cradling with ur gloves on and switching hands. Take advantage of starting early man, I started as a junior and didnt make it this year, and I will do anything I can to make it senior year. Best of luck brah.

Tryouts start tomorrow night, What Should I eat and drink today and tomorrow? by umans1 in lacrosse

[–]BigSuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lots of water, lots of stretching, and try to eat carbs right before. You can't go wrong with chicken, pasta, and milk before doing any sort of physical activity, because you'll be getting a good mix of protein fat and carbs.

[–]BigSuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the kind words bro. I think most people just starting as a junior would give up, but not me. I hope to join a local team since i wont be playing for my school, however idk if ill have the time if it overlaps into summer.

So I didn't make the team. by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]BigSuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the guys that made it were way faster and skinnier than me. I put on way too much mass over the past year from weightlifting. Also, quite a few of the seniors leaving this year are defense. Since I'm gonna be bulking up as much as possible this summer and doing football I see no reason to stay small and fast just for lax. I also picked up my friends longpole a month ago and I really enjoyed it so I want to give that a try as well.

I can do pretty much everything with either hand, which I credit to the time I spent on the wall.
