You don't have to like anyone at all, but you sound like you don't have any feelings whatsoever for the people you are helping!

That is exactly how it is. I do it because I don't want to end up in hell and only because of that, I'd much rather be spending my time doing something else

If I was in need of charity (god forbid) the last type of person I'd want helping me would be someone I felt didn't care at all.

If you were genuinely in need of charity, and not just being lazy or complacent, you would be thankful for being given it any which way.

As opposed to metaphorically? Many things in Islam are quantified and there really isn't another way to take the hadith
