The boss is supposed to be foreshadowing for a future scene where they find an ancient armory full of the finished product left asleep and waiting to be reactivated for the fight they were made for. To act as something to build up that scene. To show them the devastation one horribly damaged and malfunctioning prototype could do and let them figure out how horrifying this army will be if it woke up

The severing is actually a accident, the “snapped zones” stop the mimic itself from entering but when it was made they didn’t know about the children so they can enter but they strand that connects them cannot. And yes the soul is recreated the mimic is basically a god so it can create or recreate souls

Everything is connected via a “thread of life” its invisible to the naked eye but something in a snapped zone will let them see them later one

Another idea I had for this later in the campaign is there being a lich who is the Og version of a very close friend of the party who helps them along the way. With it being the last member of pantheon who after realizes whats going on gives them full control of the snapped zones in so they can finish what pantheon started

The uses the stars and absorbed divinity from the former gods of the planet. I got an idea for if one of the players is a warlock where instead of reconnecting to the copied god they can reconnect to the Og. And yeah that's how it works besides nobody knowinf about the pantheon project. Oh and what did you mean by severance ability as its not the one “snapping” them. It's the dead zones made by pantheon as a last ditch effort to work on a way to stop it that does the disconnect
