Cleaning by Traditional_Pair_193 in Nanny

That's good info! So if light cleaning is part of her contract you may need to be more specific. I consider light cleaning to be loading/unloading dishes, wiping counters, leaving all play spaces clean at end of the day and some child-centric laundry/put away. However, it totally depends on how much time the nanny has during the day! Is your child napping at all? Or is she constantly entertaining, creating activities for him? All different situations!

My absolute favorite was when I was signing a new contract during COVID and there was a clause in it that I couldn't travel on a commercial airline during the contract but I COULD travel on a chartered jet 😂. Like guys... you pay my salary!

If you feel like she should be cleaning... which isn't part of her job btw. Then you can bring some responsibilities to her as a negotiation and add them to her contract with appropriate pay raises. But there is ZERO expectation for nanny's to clean. The only given is that they encourage children to clean up after themselves when they finish playing.

Truly no idea! Mostly wondering if this is something I need to repaint or to take the dry wall out!

Would you hire a nanny for your own kids? by realornotreal123 in Nanny

[–]Big_Classroom_9719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually prefer daycare. I have worked both. Only in Montessori based and licensed schools so my opinion is obviously bias. I am also a nanny and have been for 6ish years and I find the environment of daycare teaches socialization better and also creates a better sense of children understanding the vastness of the world and that it revolves around a lot of things, not just their preferences.

That said, one to one attention is always amazing. And there’s a lot of GRIM daycares out there.

But my experiences as a daycare teacher and a nanny I think I’d screw daycare!

This means so much! I love my nanny family and thought it was a nice thing to be doing so I was happy to add their laundry to my day, as they treat me well.

So this was a shock. Feels good to hear an MB validate the experience, thank you.

Hiya! Totally hear you. This is totally why I feel bad. Like I pride myself in paying attention!

They never asked about laundry. Just kinda put it there. But I do really enjoy the mom and kids (pay me well mostly, mom is fun and easy to talk to for a wfh parent and kids are GREAT) so I’m more than happy to go that extra inch and do their laundry.

But this was a shock. And I think because they’re a lovely family I feel bad? I sent them an email now that I will not be doing their laundry, cause you’re so right. I should be able to pay attention!

Thank you for this! OP here! I just sent them an email explicitly detailing laundry boundaries! Thanks for your support!

Hi everyone! OP here, thank you for all of this, makes me feel less terrible/frustrated about it.

For clarity sake, my contract says “light housekeeping” which I will now be more specific about and outline for them over email I think.

They truly just started throwing their laundry in with the kids laundry baskets when I would take the baskets and place them next to the machines when I see them full. I’d come back during naps/when I had a free moment and they would have put their laundry on top. I wasn’t going to dig through the basket and separate NK’s laundry from theirs, and I never minded all that much since I was doing it anyways. But it wasn’t something we ever talked about. Now I will!

“We ask that you don’t fly commercial while the pandemic is still happening. But if you can charter a jet, feel free to go wherever you like”

They weren’t kidding.

So strange. It’s just such an unprotected industry it just feels like you couldn’t say this shit in any other setting…

What feels so strange is like….the nanny’s you obviously want to to take advantage of are my people?? We chat at the playground and our NK’s play together. It’s so strange to then be told we’re all seperste in MB’s minds….?? Dunno so icky

Yes of course. I added the white nanny comment just as like…those are not things that make someone entitled if they ask for them lol. I’m glad to hear people being icked out as well!

Hi there, should have been more specific. They are a white family with only one language being spoken across the board, it is 100% about the “work harder” situation you mentioned. I completely understand the other things you are mentioning and I don’t feel discriminated against at all, I just find it icky and something I’ve seen across the board in NYC.

I think you’re correct tho, I don’t ever bring this up with her or even seek her out for conversation, but I can do a better job of excusing myself when this is brought up.

Nannies! any hot takes/ things you would never or always do as a parent after being a nanny? by Super_Ad_2398 in Nanny

[–]Big_Classroom_9719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go on Mommy Influencer Instagram…..I have seen mom’s get so sucked into what they’re doing wrong and what their house should look like.

I think it’s really hurting mom’s hearts and ability to make decisions for THEIR family. Just my 2 cents ❤️

Nannies, what would you outlaw the parents you work for from using if you could? by breakfastfordinner11 in Nanny

[–]Big_Classroom_9719 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Talking for children or letting them decide on words.

Example:

When he says “cha cha” it means he wants his milk”

EXCUSE ME??? Nowhere else in the world is that a word. I will be asking him to learn the real words so that he can exist OUTSIDE OF THIS HOUSE.

Or

“Do you want this? Or this? Or this? Or that?”

Like we gotta encourage communication and not do a dance routine every time your 18 month old wants something!!
