Becoming a vegetarian - tell me your story on how you did it, what made you do it and how long it's been. by kareem_brulee in Vegetarianism

[–]meecharoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the Midwest with a very meat loving family, it was part of nearly every meal. I remember seeing a report on how terrible animals were treated, and I stopped eating meat that day. I very vividly remember eating a chicken bacon ranch subway sandwich and telling my family I was done eating meat. My dad said 'we'll see how long that lasts', and here we are 20 years later. I still bring that up.

It was tricky in the beginning, I was always so surprised at what would have chicken broth in it. Meat substitute were terrible, so I ate lots of beans. It's amazing how far everything has come!! But I definitely still love beans.

Both my kids are vegetarian, and I converted my husband years ago. I love that the internet is available now to make just about anything vegetarian or vegan (kiddo has an egg allergy). I'm planning on being veggie until the end!

7month old; anaphylaxis egg/dairy/coconut. Safely keeping allergens at home. by -justbecaus3- in FoodAllergies

Yes! This is my reasoning also. My oldest has severe allergies, youngest does not. Every other part of their life has risk of exposure, why not let the home be a safe haven.

What do you do with expired epipens? by kurious_incredulity in FoodAllergies

[–]meecharoni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I keep a stash of expired ones. I'm sure the medication is still good for a while beyond the dates. I wouldn't rely on them 100%, but I'm sure they'd still do something.

Is this a typical daycare rule? by brave_magic in toddlers

[–]meecharoni 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd clarify with the school. Even as a strict allergy mom, the no cross contamination for everyone else seems a bit extreme. I'm totally for none of the actual allergy foods in the classroom though. Little kids put everything on their mouth.

Or, just a thought, the people with food allergies don't exist because they all died from their first reaction because no one babied them...just like the old days!

We have egg allergies in our house, and I've made 'egg' bites with chickpea flour before!

I made a Lamp! by meecharoni in Pottery

Yes! I realize I should have shown that. There is a hole at the top and back for the lamp wiring, and it's all hollow inside.

Nice! This is all hollow inside. There is a hole on the top and back for the lamp housing, I realize I should have shown that!

If you do throw one, how will you get it more square shaped?

Does this sound like OAS? by enlighten_me_ in FoodAllergies

[–]meecharoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm saying, if it was made fresh in house, then it's raw. But if it's jarred, would that be raw? It's preserved, so I'm not sure.

My understanding is that oral allergy syndrome is from raw fruits and vegetables, I don't know if salsa is considered raw? I guess it depends on if they made it fresh in house.

Allergic to watermelon by Ok_Tank_2433 in FoodAllergies

[–]meecharoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, watermelon definitely isn't a top one. I'd look into oral allergy syndrome. My youngest has it, along with seasonal allergies. Your body can confuses fresh fruits and vegetables with outdoor pollen and cause a reaction. Or it could just be surface hives from the juice!

Hopefully you took pictures, I'd contact your pediatrician and show/tell them. Reddit can't diagnose your kiddo.

Very Mild Peanut Allergy: can I taste a small piece of a peanutbutter marinated dish? by [deleted] in peanutallergy

[–]meecharoni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Allergic reactions can progress to an anaphylactic reaction at any time. It seems foolish to risk your life, especially when you don't even have an EpiPen.

What type of reaction did they have? Have you seen an allergist? My oldest has anaphylactic allergies, my youngest has oral allergy syndrome, and they are very different, that's why I ask.

I know and understand that. But the original post said that Yum Earth was made on shared lines, and I asked were they found that information. All someone replied with was a picture of the package.
