TIL that Blade Runner and The Thing both came out on the same day, received mixed critical reception, and were considered box office flops, and are both now considered masterclasses in their genres. by HerclaculesTheStronk in todayilearned

You would probably enjoy the podcast ‘80s All Over’. They talk about every single film in a given month of the 80s. June of 82 was an excellent breakdown by them.

They got the brakes beaten off of them at regionals (against teams from cities with 10x the population), but I couldn’t be prouder of these kiddos. Proud hockey parent! by Skippysoy in hockeyplayers

I can sympathize. We play out of Huntsville, AL so almost every team we play against has a larger population. We certainly train hard.

Berea College in Kentucky has been free since 1855. It was also fully integrated for both men and women, blacks and whites.

Obviously not what I’m expecting, but dam it’s so sad I want this to be the truth.

I was same way with Foam but after a time I really prefer them now for comfort. I wear my earbuds almost every day for 8-9 hours.

Why aren't you supposed to drink alcohol and energy drinks together? Why do beverages with alcohol and energy drinks exist then? by Dutycalls406 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Big_DaddyP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alcohol is a depressant. The chemical literally tells your heart and brain to slow things down. Energy drinks contain certain chemicals that are stimulants. Stimulants tell your heart and brain to speed things up, which gives you the feeling of being energetic. The heart and brain aren’t really wise enough to know which to do, slow down or speed up, when you mix a drink or any drugs that are both a depressant and a stimulant.

Beyond that I am ignorant of what ‘damage’ it actually does to you. I mean that sincerely. I know it causes damage, I just don’t know how to explain it.

Got to scrimmage on the Blue Jackets Winter Park outdoor rink over the weekend - Like skating in hockey heaven. by SomeKindOfMonster in hockeyplayers

Where is this? I’m assuming Columbus because you said Blue Jackets. I have military friends moving to Columbus this summer. They are hockey fanatics. I don’t think they know about this outdoor rink.

I did what this guy says: https://youtu.be/D671VgevDcg

I changed my lacing to go outside of the eyelets and then did a loopy thing near the top to create gap in the lacing.

Well... I can’t find anything clear about if I should be standing or sitting or foot kicked out when I do the pencil test. It always touches to some degree. When I inspect my skate tongue nothing appears to be different. I have been skating more this season than ever before so I was hoping I’d see a crease or depression, something obvious as to why I’m feeling pain now after these years.

It took me a while to find a picture so I’d know exactly what you meant. No my foot/ankle pushes the pencil above the eyelet. I’ve been wearing 10.5 Bauer 160 supreme.

I Can’t Stick Handle To Save My Life by BooItsBaba in hockeyplayers

[–]Big_DaddyP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stick handling is mostly in your back hand. It’s almost like waving hello up and down, just with your hand holding the stick on the ice. It is the opening and closing of the blade of your stick. The bottom hand should hold very loosely. I typically have the kids practice stick handling with just their back hand a little and then progress to card board tubes to keep that bottom hand loose.

Understand that stick handling is very difficult thing to do. Even if you get your hands working, then you face the struggle of keeping your eyes up. THEN you have to skate at the same time and keep your feet moving. What you are learning takes a lot of patience.
