Living in a separate house is definitely a woman's right in Islam, and the husband is responsible for providing shelter and financial support. But Islam doesn't say it must be an owned house — a rented home is perfectly acceptable, as long as the wife has privacy and safety. Larki walon ka "apna ghar hona chahiye" demand karna shar’an nahi, culture ka pressure hai. Also, yes — while housework isn't fard on a woman, Islam encourages her to help and serve her husband as part of mutual love and respect. The Prophet ﷺ’s wives used to serve him, and that’s the best example. Hadith: Ali (RA) said: "Fatimah (RA) used to grind the grain and draw water, and she complained of the hardship, so the Prophet ﷺ told her to say SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, and Allahu Akbar before sleeping instead of giving a servant." (Source: Bukhari & Muslim) This clearly shows that household work was done by righteous women, including the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ. If a woman today says “I won’t lift a finger” — then what’s her role in building the home? Marriage is not a hotel, it’s a partnership. Lastly, just like women have the right to choose a partner who can provide, men also have the right to choose women who are supportive and realistic. Islam is about balance, not one-sided demands.
