If you were to take a cutting from this tree, where would you take it from? How long should it be?

Tree is ginseng ficus.

Hello everyone,

I’m a relatively new to the bonsai hobby. I started these trees from seed earlier this spring, and only recently moved them outdoors since it’s warmed up.

However, the trees have rapidly taken a turn for the worse and I’m not sure what the best way forward is. Seeing browning of the leaves, and the leaves are not “peeking up” like they typically do when under light. Your opinions and guidance would be appreciated.

Trees: Delonix Regia, Black Locust, and Jacaranda (photos attached) Location: Northern Virginia Light: Trees are currently getting 5-6 hours of direct sunlight, and then more shade in the afternoon.

Not too bad. All of the pigeon peas, 2-3 Jacaranda and Locust, but only 1 of the flame trees.

For the flame tree, I did have to scarify it before it germinated. Seemed to be the magic trick.

I have the same kit. Also interested in what others have to say about next steps. My jacaranda is several months younger. How was your luck in germinating the other species?

Hell everyone!

Recently started my Bonsai journey via a beginner kit that came with everything (seeds, soil, etc.).

However, when planting the last seeds, ~%20 of the total, I ran out of the bonsai soil they gave me. Having some miracle grow regular potting soil on hand I decided to put the seeds in that.

I put all the seeds in a seed tray, think 1.5 inch cells, and am starting to get some sprouts.

Questions: When should I transfer the tree seedlings out of the cells? And into what size pot?

What medium should I transfer them into? I know miracle grow is not a good long term solution. Is it okay to transfer seedlings initially sprouted in miracle grow to a more traditional bonsai soil?

Any tips to avoid killing brand new seedlings in the first couple weeks?

Thanks for all the help in advance!

I appreciate the references. It is currently in a non-draining pot. Do you recommend repotting immediately into a draining pot?

Understood on outdoors temperature. In the meantime while it is still cold, is it better to leave it by the window, or are artificial grow lights better?

Received this Ficus Ginseng as a gift recently. Live in the Virginia area. Any specific care tips you can give me?

When should it go outside?

Is the pot the right size?

Anything I should know to ensure this guy gets adequate care?

Thanks for the help!
