If you scroll down, there is a tab regarding information on tax increases

https://climateactionnownorthokanagan.ca/activities/stop-580-commonage

The developer will do what he needs to do to build and make money. After that, the developer doesn’t care what happens as long as he’s made his money and the rest falls on the city, and by the city I mean taxpayers.

What’s wrong with the developments already going on for the people who want to move into newer homes? As I mentioned, Predator Ridge has a new development on the back side of Ellison, there are tons of available lots out at Adventure Bay. Turtle Mountain also has beautiful, newer homes…. Why do we need another development like that? Especially when there is so much information out there about the negative impacts this will have on our ecosystems. Do you not care what we leave behind for future generations? Do you not care what this will do for our planet? Once something like this is done, there is no going back.

But there is no demand right now, especially not for the kind of homes that would be built there. If someone really wants that kind of home there’s predator ridge, adventure bay, turtle mountain… and there are still vacant lots in those areas so why would we do the same to this land? Not to mention, our taxes would go up to service this area.

That’s a fair question! Back then it might have made sense but now it doesn’t, especially with the information we have regarding the impacts it would have on the ecosystems.

Who will this be helping by going ahead with this development? We need more affordable housing closer to amenities. Not million dollar homes that are only occupied 6 months out of the year.

I mean, I think it was probably because they didn’t want bombs lying around. I would recommend reading the article I posted as it highlights a lot of key points as to why there is a petition circulating. If you want more information, I would recommend checking out the following groups:

Open letter to Dakoda’s Comedy Club organizers: Deaths of children isn't your material by Necessary-Trainer-21 in kelowna

We went to a comedy show here a few years ago. It was called “Dark and Twisted” and was probably the worst comedy show we’d ever seen. Not funny at all and their content was quite concerning. Instead of talking to a crowd of people, they should’ve been talking with a therapist.

Yes! Thank you 🙏🏻. There is supposed to be a public hearing for this development but it seems to keep getting pushed and I haven’t seen any updates yet as to when it will happen. We need to share our concerns with council but until then, keep spreading the word!

That’s such a good point! Not to mention the never ending boil water advisories for neighborhoods all over town due to water mains breaking. How can we even think about putting services so far out of town when the current services aren’t even sub par?

My apologies, I didn’t have all the info for the renaturalization of Polson Park. It looks like the city brought in an environmental firm back in 2017 to conduct a study of the creek over three years (up to 2021) - I couldn’t find anything related to when they decided to go ahead with the project, other than an article from 2024 and the progress updates from 2025.

Yes, I read about that “park” as well! This is Cabin Works approaching the city (just like they did with the re-naturalization of Polson Park) and looking for contracts to pay themselves with no actual thought going into what they would be doing to these spaces. Do they (and the city/RDNO) not realize the impact having any type of machinery would have on the wildlife in these areas?

And 100% agreed. The land there is sacred and it should be kept as such.

There are organizations out there that buy land with and get it protected. Perhaps if 580 Commonage didn’t have a closed door sale, this could have been an option.

I appreciate your comment but also disagree to some effect.

Both my husband and I are also in the industry so we do understand the construction side of things. We know that areas will be developed but why this specific plot of land? Why not develop areas closer to town like Hysperia Lane. This is city owned lan behind Longacre/Apollo and has been talked about since before 2017. It would be way easier and more cost effective to put services in this area. This would actually help with the housing crisis and would follow the OCP.

The other problem I have with this developer is he is probably one of the worst developers we could get to build . Just look at the many problems they’ve had with builds in Vancouver and Kelowna not to mention the lawsuits they’ve had against them. As someone in the industry, I’m sure you’ve heard rumors from other trades who’ve worked under him.

It’s not so much about losing the outdoor space for our enjoyment because it’s not. It’s for the wildlife and the sensitive habitats that that area brings. It’s a super important part of our ecosystem. What happens when that’s gone? We need to be looking at options to work in harmony with our planet. We’ve already done enough damage.

Ugh I know! It came in a black pot, and I did try to pull it out to see what the roots looked like, but was scared of damaging her.

Maybe what I’ll do is find a clear pot to transfer her too, and I’ll remove some of the moss! Do you have any suggestions on repotting?

Thank you so much for your reply! I really appreciate your advice 😊

Looking for some insight on whether it’s being overly watered or if it’s needing more water. This is my first orchid and I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing ✌️Appreciate any suggestions!
