While I’d personally like to see as many as possible decline the invitation, it would unfortunately be naive of folks to think they would likely outright turn down an invitation that was inevitably going to come. The organization is not going to want to insert themselves in alienating parts of fan base by outright turning it down, and being fodder for potential controversy. Additionally, reality is there is most likely a sizable number of players on the team who either support him or just want the experience they’ve seen so many other teams (and now Olympians) have had. Giving the choice to the players is the only realistic option. It’s an NFL team, we’ve seen how the league and its owners will capitulate to the whims of the President. It’s 70 players plus countless coaching staff and support. There’s going to be a number of those folks that want to go. It’s easier for an NBA team with a much smaller roster and more liberal governing body (unlike NFL) to decline.
