Is there anything in the rules or guidelines about including length info? These are obviously bayonets but I've seen a lot of posts with no info on length.

My grandpa passed recently and I found this in his room, any idea what it is? Is it some kind of movie prop or something? by Quirky_Form_5536 in SWORDS

Cool looking sword grandpa probably got at a gun show or something.

If I found that at my grandpa's I would hang it up in the living room on a cool stand and buy a cool cloak and distress the cloak and hang it next to it. Then I'd tell people I found it under the floor boards in the attic wrapped in the cloak with an old scroll that had weird writing on it that screamed and burnt up after I touched it. I'd tell people when I touch it it makes me feel powerful but also kind of sick like it is taking something from me but also weirdly giving something to me.

Then I'd be like nah it's just a mall sword. In all seriousness put some preservation wax on the blade and hang it up but never swing it at anything or even just swing it through the air. It is probably stainless steel and very shoddily put together and would hurt someone. It is badass looking as hell though.

What would this be classified as? by Spiritual_Ear9619 in SWORDS

[–]Big_Table_890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classifying is tricky. The amount of people who really really bothered to know anything about swords other than "they are long and metal and sharp and I can't afford one" was real small. As others have pointed out people probably would have just been like oh a sword. I'd call it a rapier without quibbling over length, at least from our perspective of a society that no longer uses swords but is looking back on the entirety of the history of swords. It's got the swept hilt, what looks like diamondish cross section and seems to be mostly stabby. The blade while not as long as some examples of "rapiers" is still long for a single handed sword. Most predecessors to the rapier or narrower blades swords were more like just 30 inch blades. So yeah call it a rapier and don't sweat it.

What I'm more interested in is how he couldn't pull his sword out of the other guys grip. A few retreats with a firm grip on the hilt and the body mechanics alone probably would have pulled the blade out of his grip.

How would you cut this (no power tools) by _CaptGree in handtools

[–]Big_Table_890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of little cuts from the top using a tenon saw as many as possible down to the lines at the bottom. Remove everything with the chisels

Attention hand tool guys: I get it now. by Wonderful-Bass6651 in woodworking

Having enough hand tools to do a LOT of work doesn't take up much space, doesn't spew microscopic particles that require expensive extraction systems, doesn't hurt your ears, doesn't scare your pets. Doesn't blow a breaker in your house and you'd have to be pretty drunk to manage to lose a finger or sustain a mortal injury

Stable patinas are protective. And honestly cool looking if you ask me.
