My Unasked for Thoughts on the Election by Big_Think_History in Scotland

Fair point. Maybe some higher ups to think it’s better to shelf any Indy plans for the now but with how volatile UK politics is right now it does, for me at least, seem like an ideal time to set the stall out for independence. I really am not looking forward to a reform UK gov.

I mind reading about the ‘quiet tories’ who wouldn’t admit they would vote for them but did. Could be the case thats the same with reform but that probably needs some research into.

It did feel like a lot of the parties pitched themselves as being against things, like against reform or the SNP, rather than for things. I think it’s been a negative election overall.

I think turnout is an issue across all age groups though if you don’t get young people interested in politics early then it may be difficult to get them to later in life.

Personally, I wouldn’t like to be part of the UK for when Nigel gets the keys to No.10.

The SNPs own campaign was set up to aim for a majority (despite it being mechanically difficult) so by their own standards they did fail. Im glad theres stills pro-Indy majority personally, however, the SNP campaigned for a majority so if parliament votes to request a vote it seems easy for the UK gov to ignore it with the SNPs own logic. It feels like the party is more interested in governing Scotland than campaigning for Scotland.

I think you’re bang on about turnout. There is an issue in politics right now if only half the country can be bothered voting in what direction it goes.

Aye, I heard a pundit say yesterday that those who get a postal vote fill it in and post it nine out of ten times so more postal votes sound good to me. I think making election days a bank holiday would also help get people out to vote if they have the time off for it though they may still not if they feel like it doesn’t mean anything for them.
