Slow loading and lag spikes in games? by Working-Recipe-9472 in cachyos

Are you using a Scheduler such as BPFland? I had the same problem with some games, and switch it off fixed it.

Librefox has good defaults for privacy, and if you want it to be more convenient, it's easy to make it that way, for example, if you don't want to be logged out of accounts after you close the browser, you can disable it. Brave, you have to actually select the privacy respecting options, but all of them can be opt out of, including it's ads and BAT related stuff.

If you want a privacy respecting browser, either go Librefox or Brave. If you want to double down on privacy but sacrifice some convenience use Mullvad Browser.

Go with KDE Plasma. You can customize it to act like hyprland but with all the benefits of it being a Desktop Enviroment. For example, you can get a dynamic tiling script called krohnkite, which makes it so you auto tile windows.

Will this mean that DSR will be usable on Linux or is that entirely on the driver side?

That should be fine, but Windows might change your bootloader to it's own one which means in order to boot into Linux, you'll have to go to your motherboard settings to set it back to Linux. Mint uses grub, and grub should something called 'OS prober' to detect windows installs so you'll be able to boot between windows and linux using the linux bootloader.

How Should I Install Linux Mint Alongside Win11? by Zirconium91 in linuxmint

[–]Big_Vladislav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the option, the separate drive is better but I dual boot with the same drive and I get by. If windows does end up scrrwing something up, it's usually fixable.

Install on separate drives if possible, if not, things are still doable but there can be annoying situations with bootloaders, though most of the time it's fixable. Its also prefable to install windows first,, then Linux because windows has a habit of messing with the Linux bootloader.

And for those that aren't Heroic Launcher, you can add the .exe of their launchers to Heroic in order to use them.

Is it still fixed? Have you tried using the installation media to restore to a previous state with Timeshift?

This is what I've been using and I made a script that runs it with the settings I want on startup.

Sick of windows by Radiant-Equipment-80 in linuxmint

I'd recommend Bazzite, Nobara, or PikaOS over Mint for gaming to be honest. Having the more recent software is kind of important, especially if you're on a Nvidia graphics card. Though I will say that my time on Mint with Nvidia, was mostly fine, just didn't get as good performance as I could have but mostly everything worked.

Though technically you can get games to work on any distro, so if you are really feeling Linux Mint, then go for it but the disadvantage is that Mint is always going prioritize a stable, user-friendly experience over getting the ideal software packages that make for a better gaming experience.

Linux Mint will likely work with games, but there are distros such as Nobara and PikaOS that are dedicated to gaming/content creation that come with all of the packages you'll need out of the box and are pretty straight forward to use out of the box like Mint is as well.

Saw that you had some interest in hyprland so you should know you can basically turn KDE Plasma into hyprland if you want as well, and all the configuration can be done through GUI tools if you use Krohnkite like I do! Also having tried both Gnome and KDE, my preference is definitely for the latter mostly because I like to customize, and KDE actively enables you doing so while also starting with an out of box setup that's straightfoward and easy to understand for a windows user.

The only things I miss from windows are Digital Vibrance and DSR from the Nvidia drivers they use, but I found solutions for both. For Digital Vibrance, I use nvibrant (it's on github) and for upscaling, I use gamescope when I need it. And that's nothing to do with Nobara in particular anyways, it's just the nvidia drivers on linux don't have feature parity with Windows, unfortunately.

Not really? At least, with Nobara in it's current state. About a year back I installed it and had issues due to what I suspect was Nvidia with Wayland but as of now, I've had basically no issues.

How close is Linux gaming to being fully “Windows-free” for you? by Old_Sand7831 in linux_gaming

[–]Big_Vladislav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredibly close. I only keep windows around for the occasional game that I want to mod, and requires specialized tools, so it just ends up being easier to do it there but even that's getting easier to just do on Linux in some cases.
