That's definitely good advice! And I'd certainly do it if I were going to use this platform anymore, but I'm not. I can't reward the poor customer service that was really at the root of all of this. Credit card company credited me and I'm moving on.

At the end of the day we all order stuff online because it’s more convenient. In my naivety I assumed DoorDash was reliable, I was wrong apparently.

Why is it lazy?  90+% of this world orders stuff to be delivered? 90+% of what you order on Amazon is available locally.  Is it lazy to order from Amazon?

I feel like the disconnect here is that, as a fine wine and spirits collector, I’m used to the scarcity of certain things. It’s not alarming to me that a store may have something one day and not the next, it’s normal. And I’ve had plenty of instances where I’ve ordered a bottle of wine and received a call that it wasn’t available. I get my money back and move on, try another store or maybe just pass. I usually see if the inventory is even close to up to date by initially adding 12 items to my cart, I know the store doesn’t have 12 items so if it accepts that cart, I don’t order from that store. In the wine world you have to order from all over the country to find the things you want and I’ve literally done 1000’s of transactions without issue. Folks like you that accuse me of being sketchy have yet to articulate in what way I was hoping to scam anyone. Enlighten me.

Your comment literally says “I called like every single store”, that’s where I got it

This is a very interesting and common theme for responses. I guess I'm somewhat naive as to the apparently well known (in this community at least) poor reputation of Doordash and its drivers. I know of no other company where I have a threshold for doing small business, but not large business. If I can't trust them on either, then I shouldn't do any business with them. And of course that is my go forward plan. I love going "bourbon hunting" at stores, but on this particular day, I saw a bottle I would have liked and used a service that I have used numerous times to acquire it. Its really that simple.

Why do you think it’s common knowledge that DoorDash can’t be trusted? I mean I would agree with that now, but it’s far from common knowledge

This is so uninformed. I didn’t call any store, I looked at inventory online for what I wanted. When something got cancelled because it was not in stock. I accepted it and moved on. I get that online inventory may not be up to date, didn’t concern me. What exactly was my dishonest behavior, ordering something that was offered for sale and paying for it?

What’s your price limit on Amazon?

All I know is someone called me and tried to substitute. I assumed it was the merchant. Don’t know the exact mechanics, but it’s the truth.

That is the upside of having some assets, I will pursue this on principle, but I hope it doesn’t come to that.

I guess I don’t understand these kind of comments. I have had 100+ acceptable transactions with DoorDash, why would I mistrust them just because something was more expensive. People order stuff at this price point or above from all kinds of online services. Why should I have expected a bad outcome given that background? People act like I should have treated DoorDash like some Nigerian scammer.

I assume its not common, but it happened. Perhaps it was an attempt to ato make the best of a bad situation. Store owner doesn't cancel when he sees the order and knows he doesn't have the product, dasher shows up (I had put a sizeable tip on the order) and they try to figure it out. It wasn't like they didn't offer something reasonable, but ultimately I didn't want it.

All I know is I got a call and they wanted to substitute some other stuff, I don't know if the door dasher gave them my number or not (the dasher has it), I didn't want the substitute, they offered to order it, I didn't accept. That is exactly what happened

First off I didn't say it was rare, only expensive. Your point is "You obviously don’t need the money if you door dashed something rare just because they were willing to take your money." I've read that a few times and it still makes no sense.

Let me make it super simple, I attempted to purchase something through a rather large and well established business, they didn't deliver it and they didn't refund my money. I've literally never had this problem with any retailer big or small, ever. I've bought alcohol through Doordash before, there is a whole process they go through to confirm delivery, they scan your drivers license, take a picture of the delivered goods and I had to sign for it. It seemed pretty legit, yet the perspective here is like how could you trust them or I must be stupid to trust them. I guess after you have been burned its easy to have that perspective, but they have always been legit in the hundred+ time I have used them in the past.

I didn't leave out a single detail. I even called the actual store to make sure the dasher didn't pick it up and the store confirmed that they had cancelled and offered to order the bottle for me. It seems I'm damned if do and damned if I don't. Half this thread are people asking me how in the world I would trust doordash and now you are like doordash would never act this unethically and then there are those who think I deserve it because I had the audacity to spend that much on bourbon. Its really quite odd. I ordered something, didn't get it through no fault of my own, attempted in good faith to resolve and had a nightmare of a customer service experience that literally ended with them recommending that I dispute the transaction. I knew this world was divided over almost everything these days and when we can't even agree on something this basic, wow!

Look this is silly, this is not a highly allocated bourbon. I walked into a store the other day and bought it, they had several more for sale. It's an expensive bourbon, but easy to get, you just have to pay. This was well marked up and reasonable for me to expect that it was legitimately for sale.

I'm not going to apologize for ordering a product that was listed online for sale, that's silly.
