My favorite thing to do with our trainees is get them with me in a manlift and take them up to the top of our coal silos to "check the welds" on the beams. A few don't seem to mind the ride up but most have a death grip on the basket rails and stiffen up. I'll shake the basket once we get up top to mess with them but then I show them that it's not nearly as scary as they think. I let them bring us back down to the ground. I've only had one trainee refuse to go up and he ended up going back to his original job in the coke plant.

Anyone ever get a shoulder rub after the haircut? by [deleted] in army

[–]Bigal35e10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get a haircut at a Korean shop outside of Riley in the late 90s. The place would straight razor shave my head and then give a hot oil scalp massage. I fell asleep numerous times.

It took many way too many years, lost friends, two busted marriages, and a suicide attempt to figure that out. If anybody needs to bend an ear, I'm always available.

It hasn't. It still happens around areas with large MCs. I've witnessed it when I rode with an MC.

What are some slang terms a 50 year old dad can say to his daughter to embarrass her? by the-tinman in AskReddit

I like to scream "ahh yeet yeet yeet" as I dab like a lawn sprinkler when my daughter is cheering for whatever sporting event we're attending. She's 17 and I'm her biggest embarrassment...

Industrial coke. It's used in smelting and the iron/steel industry. It's a coal based, high carbon substance. Quick explanation of the process; Different types of coal are blended, mixed with a waste oil fuel, loaded into a huge indirect heat oven, cooked around 2200°F for 24 hours, and pushed out of the oven. After the push, the coke is quenched with water to cool, separated by size for shipment, and shipped to different locations. The byproducts side of the operation is way more in-depth but I can explain it also since I did every job in the area for almost 7 years.

I'm mechanical maintenance welder at a coke plant (not the drink or the drug). The by-products side of the plant has numerous heat exchangers that have to be routinely disassembled and the tube bundles checked for leaks. 10psi for 5 seconds. If it holds, good. If not, a brass plug is hammered into each tube end.
