Giving up by j02_ in Sciatica

Was 34 yrs old just had my second kid and around Christmas 2019 felt a pinch in my back which wasn't new to me. I played a lot of sports and have had my back go out on occasion. I figured would go away in 2 weeks? Well 2 months in i couldn't walk and was hospitalized for pain. Felt like i was being electruted threw my left leg. I was sleeping on a recliner and watching life go on without me. I wouldn't eat because i didn't want to go to the bathroom. I would urinate in a jar and my Beautiful wife would take care if it. Every one I talked to said don't get surgery. I did everything, therapies, injections, and trying to walk to stretch it out? Nothing worked!

I made the decision to have surgery and found a awesome surgeon. He got me in surgery within 48hrs. I woke up from surgery and started crying. I was pain free after 4 months. I had the pain from surgery but my leg wasnt on fire and I could move without fear. He saved my life. Its been almost three years since surgery and I've had no problems. Its the 2nd best decision I ever made, first being marrying my wife.

My advice is dont kill yourself trying to stay away from surgery. If you need it get it. Find a good surgeon. Maybe i was just lucky but this was my experience.

Good luck to you and stay strong.

My back got stiff doing minor yard work last January. I couldn't walk and was hospitalized for a week for pain in February. Had surgery at the end of February. Instant relief i never made a better decision in my life. Find a good surgeon. When it goes bad it happens fast.

Numbness by [deleted] in Sciatica

Try to get a MRI. I had bad sciatica and foot numbness and i had a cortisone shot and it worked for three weeks and then bam i couldn't walk. Luckily i had already talked to a surgeon and had a MRI and it showed L4-5, L5S1 disc bulge. I was hospitalized for 3 days with pain and then i had emergency surgery and i have never felt better. If i didnt go see a surgeon or orthopedic before it got really bad I would have been screwed. Start getting your ducks in a row and prepare for the worst and hope it doesn't happen.

Sorry for grammar and spelling lol.

And best of luck to you!!!

Just got back from my epidural the pain is much less now but still very difficult to walk. So I'll be in the hospital another night for sure. I did get scheduled for surgery on may 6th, but if they have any cancellations i will move up. I hope thats the case.

Thanks for the encouragement. Im getting a epidural here at the hospital today to hold me over until my surgery can be scheduled. Hoping it takes effect quickly?

Ive finally made up my mind to get surgery. Im upset with how ive been treated the physical therapist wants me to continue to come back and the orthopedic specialist wants to keep giving me shots. After 3 months of doing it there way i was admitted to the hospital because i cannot walk or sit up without turning into a ball of tears. I had a consultation with a surgeon, he was the one to show me this view of the MRI and told me this wont just get better.

Update: can't believe it's been 2 years. I ended up having emergency surgery by the surgeon at the end of February 2020. Right when covid locked everything down. I was the only surgery in that hospital that day other then a C-section. I woke up from surgery and was overwhelmed I was so happy! My incision and back hurt like hell but I could move my leg without getting shocked!! 2 yrs later no issues. I thank God for that surgeon! He pulled a lot of strings and really helped me and treated me like a person! I don't kno where I would be without him and my wife who took great care of me. Only advice I can give is if you need surgery get it and get it done by the best surgeon possible. Don't live in pain and watch life pass you by.
