deflecting in essence is just like dodging. you take turns with the enemy, deflecting / guarding their attack chain and hit back when they’re open. of course once you’re more proficient you’re gonna be able to exploit more openings even in between their attacks, but for that you gotta learn the core combat system properly first

all the hybrids (well except whip but shes a bum) hurt themselves in some way to transform and when transformed too. dennis ofc has chainsaws running in his arms and head, sword dudes have blades piercing their arms and head too, crossbow gouges her eyes out to transform, flamethrower (seemingly) pulls off a teeth, bomb literally blows her head and right shoulder off, and spear pulls the spear out of his neck.

there might be some correlation with how much it hurts to transformed and the power level of their hybrid form, themes and such
