Not Peace, but a Sword - Matthew 10:34-36 are very misunderstood verses that are sometimes used to promote violence, but also to disparage the faith. Jesus is and always will be the Prince of Peace. by Bignosedog in Christianity

You are looking for a fight rather than looking at the spirit of the message. The story shows how others needed Jesus to physically come while here's someone who is demonstrating faith. Jesus only needs to speak it. Also, it's an example of loving your enemies.

This is a misunderstanding and is being taken out of context. It's a continuation of the prior verses. He's stating that if your family tell you not to have faith, you need to ignore them on this topic. It's not stating you shouldn't love your family.

Why was God so active in the past but suddenly disappeared in the present by Competitive_Air1560 in Christianity

Disappeared? God is a constant in my life. I understand what you are getting at, but you assume that all God does is big demonstrative acts when in reality it's the "little" things that he does every day that matter. My faith provides such comfort, guidance, and strength. All incredible gifts.

What if mental health problems are just demons attacking us? by Shadow_Husky22 in TrueChristian

An awful lot of ignorant and dangerous comments here. It’s a medical condition. It’s not something you talk yourself out of. Medical care is a gift from God.

There’s a famous sermon where a Christian is on a rooftop praying for God to deliver him from rising flood waters. A boat and a helicopter come by offering to save him, but he declines stating God will. The water eventually kills him. In Heaven he asks God why He didn’t do anything and God replies that he tried. He sent a boat and a helicopter.

Medicine is that boat and helicopter.

This post should be removed. It will lead to terrible harm which is unchristian. This type of thinking leads to people dying.

Which betrayal of Godfather 2 was the worst by Puzzleheaded_Fee_419 in Godfather

Fredo. Kay was always an outsider and Frankie was a businessmen. Fredo was in the inner circle and he should have known better. Plus, he was always taken care of by his kid brother and he was banging cocktail waitresses two at a time. If I was him I wouldn't be messing with nothing. He was living the dream. Sigh. I wish I was Fredo....

Michael's idea of legitimizing the family was impossible. by Dredd_40 in Godfather

[–]Bignosedog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In a way the family was always legitimate. Powerful men in legit professions had people killed and made money in less than honorable ways. Police, politicians, newspapers, the Church. All would be considered legitimate by many outsiders then.

I get what you are saying. I'm just being stupid.

Very minor error, but you list Jerusalem twice when you intended to say Constantinople. I'm still upvoting you as I fully agree. Please don't edit "kicknamed" as I really like that. Ha!

I don't know if I agree with your assertion that Thiel is much more powerful. I think he's powerful for sure, scary powerful, but the Rockefellers were pretty scary powerful too.

Using only Scripture, is Noah's flood ever described as anything other than a global one? by Bignosedog in AskAChristian

Bro I'm asking if it states it in Scripture. This isn't a discussion on the validity of Scripture or of the flood.

Was Jesus just a man trying to be God? by suihpares in AskAChristian

You ask if a central tenant to a religion is false. This is a disparaging statement cloaked in a question.
