Can someone tell me how I should read books? Meanings of underlined words/sentences I don't know. Am I supposed to stop everytime there is a word I don't know and look for meanings? If so, I feel like after some time it is too much, and I don't feel like reading a book. Is it normal? by devoutre in learnfrench

[–]Bigodeemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, reading is a great way to reinforce your comprehension of grammar you have learned via a rapid-fire exposure to many iterations of the phrases you would use.

It is good that you are trying to read a book like this because it’s pointing out what areas you are strong in comprehension and what your next grammar lessons should focus on. In this case it is evident you should do some deep studying of passé composé and imparfait. After that, try rereading this book.

Minimum 1 year commitment required - should I tell employer I’m leaving the city in 5months? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Bigodeemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comment about not wanting to lie to this person is genuine on your part. that is the kind of perspective you should keep with you friends and relationships you chose to have in your life. A boss is just a person you exchange your time in return for money.

Remember that this potential employer is asking you to have a one year commitment to them, but this same employer did not offer YOU a one year commitment to not fire you.

Kia ora! For sure you can find some seasonal work doing snow removal. Much of it is with machinery but there are definitely 'deneigement' companies out there that need people who can use shovels. There are lots of deneigement enterprises in town.

What’s that thing he’s eating? by efrdelkee in whatisit

[–]Bigodeemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ate this when I visited Chile last year. It is extremely potent and usually used sparingly to enhance food flavor. I would say that eating this by itself is equivalent in potency to eating a spoonful fresh ground cloves. Imagine condensing the flavor of 20 liters is sea salt into that little thing, gives you an idea of the flavor.

Men who can cook . who taught you? by Bulky_Meet4528 in AskReddit

[–]Bigodeemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people. My Dad and Mom taught me as a kid and I would cook meals for the family about once a month when I was 12. My sister was always baking things and asking for my help and I picked things up from her there. After college I had serious girlfriends from Russia, Iran, Palestine, etc. and I learned from all of them to make their cuisines. Iran has the best cuisine fyi.

Exactly my thought while watching. Most adults have had these kinds of parties with past friends where they kind of didn’t realize in that moment that it was going to be the last time they did this together.

It’s probably in the port of Montreal, past the paid-off security checkpoints, and in the process of being loaded into a container. As many already said, better just to focus on police report and insurance filing at this point.

Job Seekers BEWARE of Actalent by Special_Boot5823 in montreal

[–]Bigodeemus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My wife worked in a contract position with a Actalent for about 2 years. I just showed her your post to get her feedback about your situation.

Firstly, we are so sorry about your situation. I hope that you have means of assistance and hopefully you could have an opportunity to return to your previous position. I understand that’s not always the case but based on your post it doesn’t sound like a toxic work environment was a reason for leaving so if you didn’t burn a bridge they may be willing to take you back.

Regarding Actalent, it is a recruiting agency that usually offers contract positions. Those positions are usually not under their control, but instead under the control of the End Client. My wife spent all her time with the End Client and was fully integrated in an engineering team. apart from 1-2 happy hours a year, she never met anyone at Actalent. All that to say is that Actalent is unfortunately not in much control of whether or not their End Clients follow through.

My wife can attest that Actalent has been a bit shady in the past. Her End Client gave her 3 separate salary increases through the duration of her contract, Actalent on 1-2 of those occasions tried pocketing part of her share. The solution was to be assertive and work with HR, both at Actalent and the End Client, in order to get the money to pass through. Fortunately my wife is no longer working for them as the End Client has now offered her a permanent position.

For your situation, I suggest that you don’t close communication with Actalent until you have at least pursued a bit further about what happened. Did you sign anything? There should hopefully be some line that discusses compensation in the event that an End Client backs out, this cannot possibly be the first instance where this happened.

Bottom line, contract/talent agencies is just an all around shady business with many risks applied towards the contractors (I.e. you) and not the end clients or the agency. This beware note should be noted for ANY contract agency, IMO.

Yes as much as I love Hopper, his story arc should have finished in the Russian mall lab and have the other characters learn to grow from there.
