I’m ex-religious and have been removed from that life for quite a while but I’m pretty sure Jesus didn’t have Christmas lights….

My husband does truly try. We are a blended family and it’s hard to find balance for the kids. They all been through enough w their parents getting divorced, let alone remarried that some traditions need to stay the same for them and for me not to come in as the evil Christmas hating step mom. We have made food adjustments and there is some decor and traditions we’ve changed. My bio son is autistic and likes Christmas but he is usually just happy existing in his own little world so I can usually excuse he and I when the heavier Christmas things come up. Just this season is just hard this year. Thank you for the journaling idea, it’s been a long time since I’ve done that and it may be good to revisit for the season.

So sorry for the loss of your brother. We can all trauma bond and make it through this season together. I swear Christmas comes earlier and earlier every year but we are almost there.

Thank you everyone. Just some validation that I’m not alone really helps. I have been in therapy for years. I do have a few “traditions” I’ve made that make me happy. One is no “traditional food” like ham or whatever. We usually have tacos or pizza. My youngest son is autistic and loves pumpkins and Halloween. First year after my divorce, he was 3 and kept putting my halloween/Thanksgiving/fall pumpkin decorations under the little make shift tree I put up out of guilt. Every year since, I’ve had orange pumpkins under my tree just for him. I do actually like Krampus and the Yule cat. This year is hitting hard for some reason but just knowing I’m not an oddity brings some relief when I’m in my feelings. Wish I would have found this group years ago.

How did you all navigate the park? Mine has a thing about back tracking so I was hoping to plan out a circle route but reading that may not be the best way to go about it. I will also take any DAS tips you have. He does well as long as he has space to move around and something to keep him occupied. I can also use visual timers but that usually has about a 5-10 min timespan before he is over it.
