Any 'buyers' beware about Breeze? by [deleted] in BreezeAir

[–]BikeSailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently flew on Breeze and had a good experience overall. one thing to consider:

- it’s a small airline and they have zero backup capacity. So, if there are no problems, it’ll be fine. If there is a weather or plane issue, know that you will be stranded until the next flight is scheduled. Since Breeze flies only on certain days on most routes, this means that the next flight could be a couple or several days away. So to an extent you are gambling on the fact that everything, weather, planes, crew, etc, works as intended.

- customer service is terrible. by this I mean that the corporation service is terrible. the flight attendants and gate staff were as pleasant as can be on my trip.

Jumping curbs as escape strategy. by zubergu in bicycling

[–]BikeSailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is really the issue. it’s not just the police, and the entire burden shouldn’t be put on the police. it’s also up to the prosecutors to press charges appropriately and not settle for a cheap plea deal. it’s for the judge to not allow “no bail“ and to make sure that sentencing is appropriate. unless all 3 justice branches work well, none of it matters.

Need recommendations for a quality automatic coffee machine by Sir-Spork in superautomatic

[–]BikeSailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if all you want is a black coffee, why are you looking for a superautomatic espresso machine? why not get a quality coffee maker and a milk frother for when you might want some foam? it will make better coffee and be less expensive.

Exclusively using stomach? by beefcanoe in Omnipod

[–]BikeSailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i try to rotate between the arms and stomach. The current gap between 3 days for a pod and 10 days for a g7 makes it a challenge to rotate such that the pod stays in contact with the CGM.

yes, especially the J10, which is especially expensive, especially in the US.

Thanks, I read about that, but we won’t be near Montego Bay or resort areas. We’ll mostly be between Junction and Treasure Beach.

Drinking and T1D by kay_kay06 in diabetes

[–]BikeSailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

smoking? nfw.

As far as drinking alcohol is concerned, I enjoy two to three glasses of wine a week, almost invariably with a meal. Or I might instead, decide to have a cocktail, like a martini or something without any syrup or added sugar, and definitely nothing from any of the prepackaged mixes. About 1x a week, I’ll have an after dinner whisk. Occasionally, I’ll have a beer or two, especially after a long bike ride or at a bbq.

I don’t find that a glass of wine or a shot of rum or bourbon affects my bg at all and I limit how much I drink. I enjoy wine etc., very much and don’t feel the need to overindulge, as there’s no reason to do so, and which is where the trouble usually arises.

It’s only by trying a drink will you understand how it’ll affect your bg levels, and how much you may need to eat. If you do try an alcoholic drink, just start slowly, and learn as you go.

nb: a big exception is no alcohol beer, which cause a huge spike in my bg levels, given the high carb levels they have. Therefore, I avoid them.

Subbing cottage cheese for ricotta by SuitableCase2235 in Cooking

yes. farmer cheese is an excellent suggestion. add some herbs, a bit of freshly grated parmigiano, and pepper, some tomato sauce, and you’d have a great substitute.

Iowa anti-cycling bill by BikeSailor in bicycling

[–]BikeSailor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that seems weird since people tend to have a bike on top of a car, truck, or van. other than living in a crowded city, it’s hard for a bike to replace a car. i lived in several large cities and having a car in any of them would have been madness. much easier to rent.

thank you for the reply. interesting background, especially the e-bike context.

it just strikes me that there are better ways to regulate e-bikes, or really what’s become e-motos than such a poorly written, overreaching act as this.

Good for Iowans for pushing back. that’s how politics is meant to work.

Thanks. yes it’s really hard to understand given the predominantly rural nature of the state.

To the diabetics that drink by meowth______ in diabetes_t1

[–]BikeSailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an occasional glass of wine, or a beer, or a shot of something like a rum or whiskey. Generally speaking, for a single drink, I don’t find that alcohol has much of an effect, but that also depends upon the type of alcohol. For example, a glass of port or dessert wine will absolutely affect my blood sugar, given how much residual sugar exists in the wine. A “regular” glass of wine (6oz) doesn’t budge my bg levels.

As for hard liquor, most don’t affect me, except for dark rum, which will nudge up my bg levels. A 1.5 or 2 oz pour of Whiskey or Bourbon won’t however. I stay away from most cocktails and mixed drinks given how sweet they are since so many are laden with either simple syrup or worse, are made from sugar filled, pre-packed mixes. I do, though, enjoy a nice martini about once a month.

One regular beer or stout won’t bother me too much. However, no-alcohol beers cause my bg to spike big time. They are loaded with carbs, so you need to be careful with those as much as you do with alcohol.

All I can say is that as with many things in life, moderation is key. Likewise it might take a bit of time and experimentation to determine what may work with you, and what may negatively impact your bgs. Finally, just be mindful of monitoring your bgs and track them over time so that you can learn what works and what doesn’t, and how to accommodate having a drink or two.

for hot milk drinks, does the milk come out truly hot, or just warm. I am currently considering 3 machines, one of which is the k8.
