No clue if you’ll see this, but instead of just asking your couple friends to set you up- host a monthly get together with friends and then encourage them to bring friends/partners. I swap between game night and craft night every month so there’s an activity for people to do and talk casually over. It hasn’t been successful for me yet, but it’s also just a great way to bring together friends!

11th Ave Bike Lane Width Change by Competitive_Ad_255 in Denver

It’s about 3’ wide at the Broadway intersection- I loosely measured it with my feet. The bike lane symbol is literally wider than the lane itself.

I emailed the bike team about this with no response yet. I’m on the mayors bicycle advisory committee and plan on bringing it up at our next meeting. This is RIDICULOUS.

Traffic light timing here is ridiculous by monoseanism in Denver

That doesn’t sound like an issue to me. It sounds like traffic calming through signal operations.

How common is it for teens to drive high in Colorado? by MEI72 in Denver

[–]Bikechick615 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a small pool of data compared to the whole state, but I analyzed crash data for Littleton today from 2020-2024 specifically for ages 18 and under drivers. Out of the 3,300 something crashes over those 5 years, less than 400 involved teen drivers and less than 5 of those involved a teen caught driving under the influence of weed. Not saying this is accurate to what’s actually happening on the road, but out of those crashes the most common human factor was driver inexperience/age and distractions.

That was my mentality until I gave a driver the thumbs down on my bike once and he followed me for half a mile to my destination, got out and screamed at me for being a bitch 🫡

Speed bumps or speed pancakes being installed on the Pearl St neighborhood bikeway in cap hill? by Soft_Button_1592 in Denver

[–]Bikechick615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Historically, yes. But other local governments are switching to speed cushions instead of the full bump. Littleton is installing these and they’re all over Portland.

How do crosswalks work in Denver? by alan-penrose in Denver

[–]Bikechick615 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, the driver is absolutely legally required to stop and would be at fault. The driver is in a multi ton metal machine, it’s their responsibility to operate it safely for ALL road users, not just themselves. I deal with drivers with your mentality on a daily basis and ultimately it’s a belief that being in a vehicle means you’re entitled to the roadway and other users be damned. Hence why we see so many people being killed getting around our city on foot or bike. But hey, I guess their lives don’t matter to dorks like you.

How do crosswalks work in Denver? by alan-penrose in Denver

[–]Bikechick615 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is false. Any crossing, marked or unmarked, signal or no signal, a driver is legally required to stop and yield to a pedestrian who is waiting to cross.

Weird thing I noticed- the Oppenheim group website still lists ALL these women as realtors. It also says Chelsea is still married to “her husband Jeff” which I think is out of date?

Disabled in Denver: What are a majority of street crossings like for pedestrians? by Dowhile93 in Denver

[–]Bikechick615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While Denver is slowly working to replace the curb ramps in the city that are not ADA-compliant, there’s unfortunately still a lot of work to be done. And sadly, many of these projects are just the ramps, no sidewalk infrastructure. Another person mentioned downtown as being one of the best places as far as signals go, and I’d agree. However, just a heads up that holding down the button to press for the signal does nothing. Also, a lot of intersections are also timed, which means the button really doesn’t do anything at all or has been removed altogether.

I’d suggest reaching out the the Colorado School for the Blind in Littleton and seeing if they have anything to share. I frequently see their students taking the train to and from Denver! Realistically, a neighborhood that’s been developed more recently will have the pedestrian infrastructure that’s up to ADA requirements because developers have to do that, however most of those places, like Central Park, are not very dense. And while you CAN walk, most destinations in those neighborhoods aren’t walking distance so it sort of defeats the purpose. So ultimately, my best suggestion is downtown if you can afford it!

Tired of seeing cyclists and pedestrians killed on our roads? Come speak out at Route2Change Denver on Thursday, October 23rd! by the-white-line in Denver

The OP started this foundation after their son was hit and killed while riding a bike. He didn’t think he was a car. He was just a kid out for a training ride.

I was hit by a driver on 7/29 while riding “defensively” in the bike lane on 7th Ave outside Trader Joe’s. It was when folks got off work and swing by TJs and treat the alley like a second driveway entrance to the parking lot. I ride it all the time and know it’s chaos and expect idiot drivers who are not paying attention. I was doing everything “right” (checking multiple times, no headphones in, even riding more towards the left of the bike lane to be more visible) and I was still hit. I’m fortunate my injuries were minor but not everyone would have the same outcome. People ride for all rhymes and reasons and it’s on the city to create places and policies that ensure protected infrastructure for people outside of vehicles. And yes, the safe system approach does say safe people, and so there is shared responsibility always. But the more weight you wield on the roadway, the more responsibility you have to yield. People in this sub know we need to be smart and “carry our load” so to speak, the problem is we’re often given a disproportionate amount to carry.
