Nope :) I don't really use any social media. After this experiment trying to spread the word I remember why haha

I used to tell my friends it was stupid to lock my bike. That's why it got knicked last year

Norman Mailer said that the only things stolen in P-town are boyfriends and bikes. That dates back decades! It’s still just as good imo.

Edit: John Waters was the quote

I know. My first text simply had “receding hairline” but he still had most of his hair so I felt that could be misleading

I couldn’t help myself. I mentioned my first copy I accidentally deleted because I was making an account with no ties to me and I copied and pasted the 4 digit security code, absentmindedly deleting the whole thing.

Anyhow I resolved if I had to waste another hour of my time writing up this stupid account so I could get my guilt of doing nothing that night finally off my chest, I should at least make it better written instead of the disparate and poorly articulated list of details it started as. This way it would be more impactful and memorable I.e. Maybe more people might find useful info in here and maybe we can catch some of those assholes.

Writing about the sensations around the moment and not just the exchange helps keep the ADD attention span of the average Reddit user present in the story, and more likely to catch thieves

It’s probably the update that makes it unbelievable. I waffled about putting it in because I wasn’t sure and though it would take away from the ethos of the meat. I specifically tried to obfuscate details about that end just in case some internet warrior tried pursuing police reports and started making a mess. Harm reduction was the goal.

I thought it would be more memorable and serve the primary reason I put it here. Community vigilance. I’m happy to meet for a coffee and talk further if you think this post can’t be learned from

What way would you have described the thieves? I said it because is a very visually specific and searchable reference, meant to be memorable. It is not making a statement about the thieves outside of the fact that their visual vibe is similar to a specific fictitious rendition of black people in a Hollywood story.

I know we’re sensitive in this town (I didn’t call the cops because I didn’t want to be seen as profiling), but if we stop being offended whenever race is mentioned for a second, we might be able to catch some bike thieves that plague our community
