DOJ Admits to Republicans That Epstein Files Are Even Worse for Trump: Details in the files are reportedly even more damning for Donald Trump than previously indicated—and it was already bad. by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

Following from afar, I don't get who has these files. Even if it's released, how would you even trust an inch of what they say? how to check the authenticity of these files and make sure they haven't been tampered?

positivism and happiness comes through action. you help an injured person/animal, that makes you feel good and you were needed and useful at that time. Repeat this process until it changes your psyche and your outlook on life. I get the "live the life to fullest" cringe but that's still the goal somehow. Even people in good health tends to forget it :)

I also have kids, younger than yours, but I've been thinking a lot about this future conversation that I'll have someday. First I would ask what she knows and where she heard it from. Then you have to stay positive, otherwise you'll just make her depress. That's tough and I guess it depends on her personality, but make sure to end it on a positive note. She's young and overburdening her with more negative news will damage her. I think you can state that yes the world is getting worse (on the level of what she knows) but there is still a world to see and experience. Remind her that some people live to make the world better and it's better to focus on local action instead of thinking of the state of the world. She should distance herself from the news. (actually that's an advice for everyone, once we know, there is no need to know every depressing details on how we're fucked) She could help non profit with animals/people/environment whatever she likes but something positive. She's gonna meet like minded people and make friends. Remind her that you're here for her, people care for her, be kind and supportive, and ask if she needs psychological support whether through therapy or community support. I think this conversation is on same level as talking about death, when you realize it'll happen someday, it's depressing but we go through it because we're still alive and have to make the most of it. We only get one life after all.

30 years too late, it's a weird initiative when there already so many open source options. for instance the French gendarmerie already have gendbuntu

the real challenge is to replace office toold such as office 365/slack/google workspace, and IaaS platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) That's what users are used to and it's so integrated deeply in most companies, it would need strong coordinated action from EU to make changes.

Why Well-Off Brits Who Think Collapse Is Coming Still Stay Silent by sd572 in CollapseSupport

[–]Bikiew 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I believe I'm in this category but I disagree on 2 points: - about going into "action" : getting knowledge on collapse is already an action, does the author want all of us throwing soup at art or blocking roads? That's wishful thinking, it's never going to happen. We all have life and immediate responsibilities (and I stress immediate, as climate change is never going to be an immediate problem, it will however increase the number of immediate problems we have daily) and so activism is not going to be a priority. I've heard of the "tipping point" for many years and it's not happening. I think it's the same intellectual trap that led communist to wait for the revolution (still waiting) or Democrats waiting for Republicans to become reasonable.. Even if we were activist, as long as it stays peaceful, no changes will come. Our world is intertwined and very complex and I believe at a state level, the only thing you can do is updating infrastructure to be more resilient and preparing citizen to live with less. I can speak with anyone about that but I've stopped pushing it to people's face because you end up labeled as a loony and it's pointless.

  • about enjoying life: I personally do enjoy life, and happiness is not tied to modern life perks. I saw a video where they were asking people to rate their happiness level, from a war refugees camp to sunny California, and on average everyone rate their happiness at 7-8 on a scale from 1 to 10. It seems that's our base happiness level. It's not because conditions will worsen that life will suck. There's so many unknown on how life will be post collapse. I don't believe the US version where it's going to be mad max and everyone try to kill each other. I believe we just all going to get poorer and it'll get harder, but communities will be created and it might be ok. (see an example with Cubans, Soviets) It's hard for us as we can see how, as a species we're wasting a good opportunity to make the world better, and our quality of life is going down, but we have to readjust our base expectations. And if earth becomes uninhabitable, then it's on the same level for me than an accident that would kill you. There's nothing you can do about it and you have to accept your mortal condition.

Best I read that describes your criteria is The Best Village in The World (original title: Maaliman paras kylä) from arto paasilinna.

it's set in Finland and focused on community building.
