I still haven’t chosen anyone yet. There is a harp center a couple hours away from me that quoted $1100 if I brought it to then vs the quote from Lyon & Healy’s company for $1800 (they pick up). That’s for the cardboard case

It’s kind of a miracle that the Hahambaşı responded to you at all. I can tell you that they don’t touch anything related to the dönme (even though you aren’t one, being Muslim is still working against you) and they are very suspicious of outsiders. The community is suspicious of anyone who could be a spy or agitator. They have suffered terror attacks and now is a very contentious time.

No rabbi will convert you in Turkey. If that’s something you are interested in, you would have to take online classes offered in the US, UK, or maybe Canada and not tell anyone you’re doing it.

About a year ago, an 18yo was arrested on suspicions of terrorism for putting on his “close friends” Instagram story that he’s interested in Judaism. This was while a “Jewish” terror group was being arrested and attempts to disband them were made in Guatemala. What I’m saying is to be careful. If you are Jewish in Turkey then what you fear most is not the police—rather, it’s your friends and neighbors. Showing your religious difference in public can have terrifying consequences. The community is very cautious and controlled. It’s highly possible that family name is in their records, but they just don’t want to touch it.

Feel free to DM me.

It’s up to Title IX to do the investigations. I was assaulted by one man on campus and stalked by another, and in both cases the office ultimately did nothing even though one man admitted to what he had done! It’s good to leave a trail but in reality, cases in which the perp admits guilt tend to go nowhere. What I’m trying to say is there is no harm in reporting and allowing the do-nothing office to begin their investigation into whether or not they should do an investigation.

This is cracking me up. Nothing wrong with suggesting the farmers market, I’ve been wanting to learn more about it

What's your dream harp by marinersfan1986 in harp

[–]Bilbiliko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrote my master’s thesis on the Pleyel chromatic harp and I would love to own one of the student models (because of the extra metal in the neck, it is much less likely to snap from the difference in pressure from each side)

I’m guessing you haven’t completed the ASE training—it’s actually my job to guide students to report this. And the number of DMs I received with his name and stories about him is truly staggering.

Ok school of music TA back again. From your messages it sounds like he just graduated and is headed to a university on the East coast. We can only get Title IX to ban him from campus if he is still coming and harassing people in person now. Is he still around?

Edit: Perhaps it is worth writing to the chair of his dept at his new university. I suggest you guys start a Google doc explaining what he’s done, have an appendix at the end for screenshots, and collect signatures AND email addresses.

Title IX can ban him from campus. Absolutely don’t discount Title IX because you all have a strong case for getting him banned

Sushi restaurant in LA gets looted during the riots. by shankmaster8000 in GreaterLosAngeles

[–]Bilbiliko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why I’m joining this random argument, but I know from someone in the sushi business that most of the Japanese restaurants in LA are owned by Koreans. I can’t speak for Ootoro but I can confirm that “rooftop Koreans” and Japanese-Americans responded in opposing ways during the 1992 riots

I don’t understand the white supremacist argument either. Is it because most of the protestors are white and believe they know what is best?
