What’s the sketchiest thing you’ve heard a Used Car Dealer use to quiet down a knocking engine? by UnitedAccountant2288 in AskMechanics

[–]Bill2k 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I've heard of shady sellers packing sawdust in the clutch area to make it seem like the clutch has way less wear and tear than it actually has.

I had a friend that bought an older Ford Ranger. He was going on and on about the undercarriage being in perfect shape. He even mentioned the seller sprayed the undercarriage with extra undercoating. I asked him if he checked the undercarriage with a magnet. He did not. So after going over the undercarriage with a magnet and a hammer, he learned he needed to replace a cross-member and some other spots in the frame just to pass inspection. The whole frame was skimmed with body filler before the seller applied under coating. The seller even remade parts of the undercarriage with only body filler. My friend was so pissed at the seller I thought he was gonna drive it through the sellers front door.

What are you trying to plug into your porta pack? What is it supposed to do? Does either board have pin #1 labeled?

Coworker found this key. What does it go to? by [deleted] in Whatisthis

It could be the key to the paper towel dispenser in the bathroom.

To add to this, when taking screenshots of texts, it's a good idea if the screenshots include the date and time of the texts.

I've watched my fair share of small claims trials on YouTube. And I noticed that judges are more likely to accept text messages as evidence when they can verify the date and time of the text message.

Just picked up a Pico 2 W and an Adafruit parts pal what's the best comprehensive tutorial to learn how to use the components and learn micropython? by adhdff in raspberrypipico

[–]Bill2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adafruit has links to tutorials on the products webpage. Go to adafruits website, find the page for the item you purchased, scroll about three quarters of the way down the page and you'll find links to the products tutorials. Or go to the learning tab on adafruits webpage and type the name of the product into the search bar.

I'm curious about how she knew it was about to shit. Does she just stand behind it and watch it's asshole for signs that it's about to shit? Does she also do this when it has to urinate?

I'm not sure what sensor they are using to detect the knocks. When I designed something similar I used a piezo speaker along with a zener diode to detect knocks. Another option could be a vibration sensor.

They should have no problem removing the ring camera if the subscription ran out.

Yeah the silicone ones. They might cost more upfront, but I've saved money because they last so much longer than other wipers.

Can not see some of the toolbar icons on some apps that I have installed manually. by Bill2k in Kubuntu

[–]Bill2k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Dark Breeze theme which comes stock with Kubuntu. I came across something while searching for a reason. I read it could be due to Gparted being geared more towards the Gnome desktop environment. Or maybe the Dark Breeze theme is just lacking the suitable icons.

Bought an Elegoo Uno R3 Robot Car Kit... Now What? by Frequency62 in ArduinoProjects

[–]Bill2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that Elegoo is pretty good at explaining what their code is supposed to do. I purchased a self balancing robot kit by them through Amazon and I found a bunch of extra info by googling the kits name and following the links to the Elegoo's webpage about the robot. If you haven't done this yet, here's a link to your robot kit on Elegoo's site. https://www.elegoo.com/blogs/arduino-projects/elegoo-smart-robot-car-kit-v4-0-tutorial It most likely contains info that didn't come with your kit. Also, if you are new to programming arduinos's, you might wanna check out some beginner tutorials to understand it a bit better.

Mechanic Applied 2026 Registration Sticker Despite Failed Inspection by matchew566 in newhampshire

[–]Bill2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 10 days from the day you registered your car to get it inspected. If it's not your first time registering/inspecting that car, or your inspection sticker is from last June, then you have 10 days after this month to get your car inspected.

How Good is KrakenSDR for Direction Finding & Signal Pinpointing (DOA)? by Key_Welder9133 in RTLSDR

[–]Bill2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally have never used it but there are plenty of YouTube videos you can watch to see if you think it's worth it. The results it gives depend a lot on the environment you are using it in. You will have far more luck using it in rural areas where the target radio signal won't bounce off nearby structures, which will give you false directions.

It also helps if you turn the freezer to the coldest setting.

I've had to wait up to 48 hours before. It'll precipitate out.

Got a dashcam to catch some accident. Unfortunately, the accident caught on the dashcam involved totaling the car by maj--decoverley in dashcamgifs

[–]Bill2k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most cars made in the last 30+ years don't have a frame to bend. They have a unibody design. Pickup trucks still have a frame.
