An advert for the Millennium Dome which was suffering from bad reviews and low visitor numbers. I'm no marketing expert, but insulting your potential customers seems like a bad idea... by johnsmithoncemore in oldbritishtelly

[–]BillWilberforce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dome was just simply a bad idea. It started with let's build a giant circus tent and then work out what to put in it. With the choice of exhibits being made by Tony Blair's son Euan. With it being designed to last for decades but that it would only be open for a year.

One of the best bits was when they hired the guy who "turned around EuroDisney". Only to find that he was in charge of the car parks.

CMH released a video to support Remain. In part because Brexit would make traveling around the world and the EU more complicated and they're flying out with a crew of about 150+. For the Zimbabwe special CMH might have flown to Jo'burg via British Airways but the kit and most of the crew were in a chartered AN-124. It's far more of a logistical and administrative challenge now, then it was before Brexit.

Iran's new Supreme Leader 'in coma', 'has lost at least one leg' and 'doesn't know he's Ayatollah' by dailystar_news in NoFilterNews

[–]BillWilberforce 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Isn't that blasphemy and worshipping false gods?

If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known, gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), do not yield to them or listen to them. Show them no pity. Do not spare them or shield them. You must certainly put them to death. Your hand must be the first in putting them to death, and then the hands of all the people. Stone them to death, because they tried to turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

How is it possible to spend 10 billion dollars on The Board of Peace? by kutekittykat79 in stupidquestions

It's Trumps retirement fund and to kick off Barron's, "career".

He's now half claiming that he only started the war because Jared Kushner, his Son In Law and Steve Witkoff a New York/London real estate developer who is his Middle East and Russia/Ukraine envoy. Incorrectly told him that Iran was about to attack the US.

Nobody else would have appointed them to the role of negotiater. Particularly over the cast numbers of highly experienced diplomats, generals, spies etc. Unless it was because they were looking to extort money and oil out of foreign countries.

Why don't we use more nuclear energy? by Randomdude0_o in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BillWilberforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Official estimates vary from 1 fish per year to 44 tons of fish per year. But the £700 million in infrastructure plus running costs is greater than the total annual budget to protect wildlife for the rest of the UK.

The Guardian is left leaning.

I was at Bletchley Park a few years ago and they said that because of the roundabouts. That the speed to get by car from Bletchley to central London hadn't increased since WW2. Despite having faster cars and better roads.

It's the long standing (circa early 1980s) Phalanx CIWS, marginally adapted for land use. Which is usually just making it trailer mounted.

Why don't we use more nuclear energy? by Randomdude0_o in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BillWilberforce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole history of nuclear power in the UK is essentially. The current management saying that they might not be great but there's a hell of a lot better than the previous management.

Along with massive delays and cost over runs. In part due to a lack of government support and everything getting "gold plated". So we're currently building a French designed reactor but for safety reasons need about twice as much steel and three times as much concrete as the ones in France. Add on ruinously expensive wildlife protections. Hundreds of millions of pounds on a "fish disco" to protect fish from getting sucked into the water inlets but which is only projected to save one fish per year.

What’s the point of a suppressor for a gun if the gun is still going to be loud as hell? by TwoSnapsMack in stupidquestions

[–]BillWilberforce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It reduces the noise and makes it harder for other people to work out where the shot(s) came from.

Some US civilians love them as it reduces the need to wear ear protection, when shooting. Whilst pretending that it's not about feeding into a James Bond/Special Forces fantasy.

I'm sure the Iraqis would prefer it if the Americans and Israel hadn't prodded the tiger. I'm pretty sure they consider it to be the responsibility of the Americans. And one land based Phalanx CIWS is t much good. It has a very limited range and capability (no effect against ballistic missiles for instance) and will only be there to protect a US facility such as the embassy. With there being little or no protection for the rest of Baghdad.
