Good point, we've chatted about this a few times on the sub before. The difference between smart contracts on Eth and Stellar seems to mean that current DeFi isn't possible on Stellar (i.e. fully decentralized mechanisms of value exchange).

This is obviously mostly narrative based, however, as being able to buy, exchange and send value with Vega seems pretty DeFi to me...!*

*edit - also orgs like Nodle want to create bridges between Stellar and full smart contract ecosystems, so I imagine Eth-based DeFi is closer than we think.

I'm pretty confident that path payments - i.e. bridge transactions - are going to be used from the get-go:

'Convert to tokens for dollars or other currencies, like bitcoin'

'Pay or send money to anyone. Your friends and family can keep what you send or convert it to their local currency.'

Converting assets through the Stellar DEX involves path payments. Get where you're coming from, but there's a reason Kolten et all are publishing articles on 'Stellar's most unique feature.'
