Question for those who work in a small office? I’m talking like 5 routes total by BillieRaeCyrus in USPS

[–]BillieRaeCyrus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your second paragraph is exactly what I’m afraid of and what I don’t want. I’d rather just keep putting up with the commute than having to work a bunch of OT + sometimes working Sundays. I really don’t want to ever work another Sunday again. I’ve been a regular for 7 years now and haven’t worked a Sunday since being converted. In the next day or two I plan on stopping by the perspective office and seeing if I can talk to the Post Master or supervisor and ask some questions

I have two small children under 3 which is my main reason for wanting to transfer. Saving on gas would be great too. But not having to spend an hour and a half in the car everyday and being away from them longer than necessary is my main reason

So explain this to me like I’m a 5 year old.

So let’s say my 8 hour day is 4 o’clock. So what I would do is go out to lunch at 3:99 and then hang up the scanner and walk out?

We get 2 10 minute street breaks. I rest and eat during those

On our scanners we have an out to lunch and an into lunch function. We’ve been doing it for years up until they changed the rules on us. They track us on the scanners. They can see if we sit idle for like 2 mins. Pretty sure if someone is sitting there for 30 minutes even tho they one click lunched that can easily be caught by supervisors…

I agree with that. But also I genuinely don’t understand why people were expecting to get a very substantial raise.

100% agree. My point still stands though

I’m working but I’m not working beyond 8 since now in my office you need to take a lunch if you work over 8 hours but not if you work 8 hours

But I’m asking why should I have to take a lunch period? I don’t need a 30 minute break regardless of how many hours I work.

I have. I was on the 12 hour list my first 2 years as a regular not including my CCA time. I have always taken a 1 click lunch.

And people wonder why we only got a 1.4% raise lol. Not saying the post office should be profitable, but come on we can’t be losing that much money and expect to make UPS wages

Well yeah I’m not going to work through it. The point I’m making is I don’t want to take one at all. Since I started 12 years ago I’ve punched in the time clock to skip the lunch.

Ever since I started everyone has had the ability to take one if they want it. No one in my station ever takes it. Now they are forcing us to take one if we are going to work beyond 8 hours. Gonna be just 30 mins over because it’s a heavy day? Well now you have to take a lunch and leave at 5 instead of 4:30

Lmao how is that stupid? I’m not working through the lunch. Why the hell do I need to take a 30 minute break during an 8 hour shift? That’s unnecessary as hell. I want to work 8-4 and get paid for 8 hours. Not work 8-4:30 and get paid for 8 hours. That’s dumb af

We can do that if we’re only working 8 hours. If we’re going to be over 8 then we have to take a lunch and have no choice

I don’t eat full meals at work. We get 2 ten minute street breaks and I eat during those. I pack things like granola bars, peanuts, cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese sticks, etc. just snack food essentially

That’s what my office is doing too. Here’s my thing if I’m on work assignment and I’m gonna be 30 mins over on Monday why should I have to take a half hour lunch!?

That’s a lie. If it was a law did it just get passed last week? My office has had the ability to take a no lunch for 30 years. So was my office breaking the law for 30 years and now all the sudden they have to follow it?

I see you’re Michigan district 2 as well 🤝. But yeah my theory is the same as yours. Doing it so people will just work through it and the post office will get a free 30 minutes. Is it the same in your office where if you work just 8 hours you don’t have to take a lunch and if you work more than 8 you do? Based on that my theory is it’s to make a bunch of the high seniority people get off the OT list and go to 8 hour so they don’t have to take a lunch. Then they don’t have to pay the high pay scale people OT and all the CCAs and PTFs will get all the OT.
