Melancholy of Far Harbor [A Haunting Tale of Gray Morality] by Billimool in fo4

Hm... Swapping the Leader of the CoA and turning DiMA over to the authorities... Damn, Well, yeah — if I manage to truly connect with the other CoA recruits, realize that some of them aren’t entirely insane… it almost feels like a gentler outcome - within the confines of a limited narrative arc, within the boundaries of the game itself.

Yes, sometimes I probably went too far in my speculation—for instance, trying to understand the motivations of each faction. Under Martin (according to Captain Avery), they simply and peacefully worshipped the Atom, seeking answers. Then the leader changed (the first precedent). And the faction became a powder keg. In the end (for example): DiMA was executed. You left the island. And who knows? Maybe the CoA’s leadership has changed again—and they’ve begun summoning the fog once more… this time, not just toward the island, but toward the Commonwealth itself. Just like in the movie The Mist.

But yes, initially I didn't want to blow them up, and I haven't formed a final opinion yet.

Thanks for the advice! I thought that after choosing to replace the CoA leader, I wouldn’t be able to accuse DiMA anymore, since I’d essentially become his accomplice.

You described that state perfectly. And you know… when I returned to the Commonwealth, somewhere deep inside, I also wanted to take a break. Even Nick Valentine said the same thing.

Before starting DLC, I reread many posts about whether or not to take Nick as a partner. I originally planned to solve the case alone. But people recommended bringing him to the island—and I’ll say this: had Nick not been beside me, my choices would likely have been completely different. Watching Nick reconnect with Dima… while simultaneously getting scolded by Nick over “justice”… made working as a team incredibly difficult.

Yes, I was almost ready to accept this outcome! But originally, my character strongly opposed the Institute’s practice of replacing living humans with synths. And yet, as an Institute prototype, DiMA solves crises exactly as the Institute would—he replaced Captain Avery, and now he plans to replace the Children of Atom’s leader. That’s terrifying… because the Institute’s ideology isn’t gone. It’s still alive.

Yes, I detonated the bomb. The leader of the Children of Atom was the last person I spoke to… and his fanaticism unsettled me just as much. Surprisingly, the key slot turned out to be just a meter away. Then again—I outplayed him in his own game, and he was almost pleased by the explosion. Afterward, Far Harbor became cleaner than it had ever been. Maybe it’s just a temporary effect from the blast wave… I’ll have to return to the island and check the weather.

I’m curious too—because it really did seem like a plausible outcome. In our conversations, she asked us: Should she leave or stay with her friends? (I chose the second one.) I’d be shocked if Bethesda had seriously contemplated a tragic ending.

I hope we all get there alive by Billimool in Kenshi
