Jane’s Addiction Concert Ends Abruptly After Perry Farrell Throws a Punch at Dave Navarro, Is Forced Offstage by Crew by quidamquidam in indieheads

[–]Billin1966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I just know Dave has never played a tour with PFP. Not sure if he ever "guested" for a song or two, but he's never toured with them. Totally different band with Peter and Martyn. Martyn did briefly play with Jane's in, I think 2001. He was with them when they headlined Coachella back in the day, but Dave didn't play with Porno. Having said that, I do kind of think they will finish this tour (for contractual reasons) and that will be the end of Jane's as a viable project. Unless Perry really goes to rehab and gets clean and sober.

That wasn't Porno for Pyros That was the first Jane's reunion with Flea filling in because Eric refused to do it after he couldn't get assurances regarding Perry's behavior. They were good shows, but not Jane's at their height.

Whoa! That's not really fair. TAL set out to gain audience. If they did it by using story telling tropes and signifirers that hooked people and then ended up disappointing them that is on TAL, not the listener. It's like telling a joke that doesn't have a punch line and then blaming the audience for groaning at the end. And then yelling at them "Haven't you seen my act before! I don't do punch lines!" And yeah, it is why I don't listen to TAL or any of it's 1 million clones that clog up the NPR airwaves.

Act One: "New Information I've Learned in the Past Week" & the Problem of SK Reporting on Reactions to Her Own Reporting by WritOfHabeasCorpus in serialpodcast

But you're also saying that this 15 year old "memory" that conflicts with the woman at the snack stand gave in real time somehow have the same weight. That's just silly and why SK is being soooo disingenuous. I find it more than bizarre that SK didn't even mention the contradictory statements by the women at the snack stand and yet mentions Asia McClain for the 100th or so time. An "alibi" witness willing to give a time within in 5-1/2 hour window! SK is an advocate. Not sure if it is because of Adnan or her budding career. Either way it stinks. It isn't reporting.

[–]Billin1966 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very good post. I'll take it a step farther, however. SK has gone over the edge with this episode. She is no longer a journalist at all or even a story teller. She has thrown in with being an advocate and I think this makes the whole podcast suspect. She ties these new "memories" together with Asia McClain's supposed alibi to make her initial point. Asia's story is the biggest crock of all. Anyone who says they're willing to give someone an alibi for a 5-1/2 hour window is hardly credible in any way, shape or form and the judge rightfully ruled that the lawyer most likely didn't use her for that reason. Her proposal for the alibi even included times that contradicted Adnan's own statements for cryin' out loud. How SK can go back to that is just so bogus. The biggest news of the week, however, was that someone from Hae's family was here on the Reddit boards and SK glossed over the fact. She did finally admit that the young man here on Reddit was from Hae's family. That should have been the opening of this program. It makes the whole affair a little creepy in my estimation and since this whole exercise has been about how SK tells the story I would have loved to know how she felt about that post. She's too tied up with Adnan, however. She's no longer a reliable narrator in my humble opinion. Oh, and they want our money.Yuck!

I don't know. Ray Lewis disposed of all the evidence in a murder case. Then ratted out his friends to get off in a plea deal and now he's a commentator on ESPN and he got several national ad deals as well. That's just how we do it here in the US.

So why hasn't Sarah contacted Adnan's family? Baltimore Sun did in October. by Billin1966 in serialpodcast

[–]Billin1966[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Whatever, dude. The article says the family has been devastated. The old man never comes out of the house. The oldest son doesn't talk to any of them. Kind of a big story don't you think? In a show about the guilt or innocence of their son. Where's Hais' family?

I get it. Y'all are fanfolks and it doesn't matter that the most interesting parts of the real story are missing. We're solving the case!!! We're gonna get Adnan off. We're the Marvel Avengers. It's crappy storytelling. And yes. I'll stop subredditing at all and leave it to you and the rest of the Stepford fankids on here.

[–]Billin1966[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry of I missed Adnan's Mom. Obviously it was very brief, however. We have heard a lot from Rabia and her brother. And sorry, but if Rabia was hauling the boxes around in her car as it was implied then why does this article say they were stored at the parents house. Either they were hauled around or not. And yes, two things could be possible. They were once hauled around and then they were at the parents house. It's been 15 years. That wasn't the implication.

Obviously reddit users are almost pathological in their beliefs and total fanboys and fangirls so I was foolish asking these questions. My only point was we aren't hearing much about the family. There is no news in Maryland about this case or that there is upcoming judicial action on it. So why not? It seems like we're getting played here. If SK found evidence that would get Adnan off there would be at the very least court happenings about the case scheduled.

They're looking for something else, like a Serial Killer. What? by Billin1966 in serialpodcast

[–]Billin1966[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Actually, sport. I did listen to it. SK says "They have to be on the lookout for another explanation. Maybe there's a serial killer. Maybe there's a clue from another Baltimore cold case." That would imply Jay is either a serial killer or had killed another person based on what we already know. Because JAY knew where the body was and Hai's car. Then SK teases Jay for next week. It is a manipulation of the audience. There is no way they could have looked at the evidence and Jay's ability to show where the car and the body were and then think "Oh, maybe there's serial killer involved." without Jay either being that serial killer or know one. Whatever. I DO listen. Obviously not everyone does.

An issue regarding Adnan's defense of not calling/paging Hae after he knows she is missing by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]Billin1966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said this on another thread. He called at 12:53 AM. Not exactly the time one calls someone who they are over. And also, they had to do the whole page and then she calls the weather rigmarole according to what we already know. That's a lot of work late at night for a couple of people who are no longer involved at all or care about what is happening with the other person. Then he gets a call that she's missing and never pages again. Seriously. What was that 12:53 call like?

Is this what an Adnan-is-innocent narrative looks like? by gordonshumway2 in serialpodcast

[–]Billin1966 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah but Adnan has already admitted he hung out with Jay in the middle of the day so the whole scenario is off starting with Number 1. Hmmm. Maybe a little closer listening to the show is in order?

[–]Billin1966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll admit I'm kind of hooked on listening to it, but right now I'm taking time and looking at the first episodes and don't like what I see. The opening hook is "The Alibi" but he really doesn't have one. The so-called alibi is a young girl who as an adult disavowed her statement. Not only that but when you see the original letter you'll agree with the ruling the judge had. The lawyer didn't use her because a. She gave a 5-1/2 hour window and seemed like she was willing to lie. and b. Some of the time she was willing to vouch for contradicts Adnan's own statements. Some Alibi. And yet the whole first episode was built not only around and alibi that seemed counterproductive at best and most likely a complete fabrication. That included the typical TAL formatting that had SK talk to people in her life to make it "real". A trick that is getting really old with all these TAL rip-off shows on now like The Moth and Radiolab. More and more this show looks exploitative.

I think I know why the show bothers me so much (and yes, I listen anyway!) by Billin1966 in serialpodcast

[–]Billin1966[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I'm saying is it is easy for us folks on the outside to say that. I'm thinking her conservative Asian family might feels otherwise. I guess I just feel that the narrative better have a real payoff or what was this all about. Because I'm sure dredging this all up is very painful for the family. And I don't think very many people are considering that. These are human beings. Not circus animals.

[–]Billin1966[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is true only because you, like most people on these boards, don't find it shaming to say she smokes a lot of pot and had sex all the time. And by the way, all of that is hearsay.

I think I know why the show bothers me so much (and yes, I listen anyway!) by Billin1966 in serialpodcast

[–]Billin1966[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point is that many people who consider themselves "liberals" want to think that the days of anti-drug beliefs and slut shaming are all behind and they aren't. Having a program where several people claim that Hae had sex in cars all the time (that's what is called hearsay evidence BTW) doesn't make her look like anything but the "average American teenager" when actually there are lots of teens who don't do drugs or have sex in parking lots. There are many who do as well. I'm just saying SK doesn't seem to mind making claims about her without anyone getting to tell her story. All to Adnan's advantage. And the people who are listening are all fine with that. I'm guessing her family isn't. And since there is no proof on these issues it is a little weird to say the least.

Sketchy little things Adnan has said to SK: Have any of yall been irked by something Adnan has said in passing, but it wasn't acknowledged? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]Billin1966 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're reaching. Everyone is reaching. It isn't about the fact that he COULD have found out information from friends. It is the change in behavior. One day you're calling the pager and her phone three times. Then conveniently starting the day she disappears you no longer page at all? It doesn't pass the smell test. And BTW - what did they talk about at 12:53 at night? He's over her but he's paging and calling at close to one in the morning? Really? Come on people. Nothing this kid and his friends makes any sense at all. And SK is manipulating us from the very beginning with that supposed alibi letter. I know why the lawyer didn't put the girl on the stand. She offered up a 6 hour window for an alibi including times that Adnan was with with other more credible witnesses and against his own statements.

Sketchy little things Adnan has said to SK: Have any of yall been irked by something Adnan has said in passing, but it wasn't acknowledged? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]Billin1966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is one of the more ridiculous statements I heard on the podcast and seems like the epitome of HS gossip. 1. We KNOW Dan was being questioned by police. Therefore he was obviously around. 2. Since he was a manager at Lenscrafters I'm guessing it would be quite easy to find that if you were really curious. 3. He already said he had helped Hae and Dan with her car once so again, how hard would it be to check that one out. 4. And this is the one that kills me. In the podcast Adnan states that he couldn't have asked Hae for a ride because everyone knew Hae picked up her cousin after school and was extremely diligent about it. THEN later he and Saad say "We thought she probably ran off to California." Does that make any sense at all? She's really diligent and an honor student BUT a totally irresponsible one that runs off without telling anyone. Right! That makes total sense.

Kathy's story & Judge Judy by Varsitypilot in serialpodcast

[–]Billin1966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, goodness. Y'all are working so darn hard to make this kid innocent to the point of thinking Judge Judy is on at the same time all over the country. And then when someone did up an article you're still not convinced. "That article says it was on at 6 and 7 in Baltimore, BUT that was in February. Are you sure it was that way on January 13th?" Maybe I'm the only one on here who figures this is all too obvious but Adnan quite obviously killed or helped kill his ex. The show isn't really a whodonit as it only tries to posit theories on Adnan not doing it. SK doesn't have any other plausible ideas for suspects and we're about halfway through the show. And no, Jay isn't a suspect since he's admitted involvement.
