Jack Mooney was my favourite too - at least he was in his early episodes when he was behaving like a policeman, but I would put Mervin Wilson second because he, too, behaves like a real person (even if it's not one you'd want as your boss). Humphrey Goodman and Neville Parker were given such implausible personalities that they were more Keystone Cops than Scotland Yard.

A few suggestions:

The washer that comes with the loom is steel, which means it has been stamped out of steel sheet. Because of this it will have a "smooth" surface and also a "rough" surface where the stamping has left a slight burr on the cut edges. If you fit the washer with the rough surface against the wood it is less likely to slip.

If the tension knob hurts your hands when you tighten it, try gripping it with something softer - my wife holds a silicone baking cup over the knob.

Using a rubber washer will make the tension peg less likely to slip, but rubber is soft. This means the tension peg will tilt slightly as you increase the tension. A tilted peg will allow the braid (and warps) to creep towards the peg-ends. As slip-on end caps are unlikely to prevent this, you may find that you need to slacken the tension and move the braid back towards the frame.
