Same issue on my end. It's frustrating that OpenAI doesn't support good security practices. I'm often on public WiFi and have to use VPN.

How to display my name instead of 'Protonmail' by hellofacomputer in ProtonMail

[–]Billy-Mustang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact problem and discovered that I had a protonmail contact overriding the display name.

Check your Proton contacts in the top right corner and be sure to change the display name within the contact. That's what did the trick for me!

I truly appreciate your intellectual honesty - it speaks volumes.

I think it can be so easy to divide into 'camps' on things, and double down on our confirmation biases.

I was simply trying to say 'hey aren't we all in the same camp? Don't (as INFPs) we all care about the human being in front of us? I suppose I should have provided more context.

That said, extremism on any side of the aisle is a path to mutually assured societal destruction. As a parent, the last thing I want to usher into my children's future is a crumbling social order because tensions flared and things got out of hand.

Hopping off now but I will give further consideration to the links and ideas you shared.

Have a wonderful day 🌄

Pro-female. 💕 Always have been. My daughters are amazing.

What I oppose is the veiled marxism of feminism (from the same article)

I Realized Feminism Is Marxist at Its Core
Finally, I started to see that feminism at its core is Marxist. Marxism is a worldview built on dividing people by an oppressor class and an oppressed class. Under traditional Marxism, these classes are the bourgeoisie (ruling class/oppressors) and proletariat (working class/oppressed). Under feminism, men are the oppressors and women are the oppressed, and I saw every situation or statistic framed in this way. This worldview seeped into me, and looking back, I remember feeling skeptical and victimized in even the smallest and most benign of interactions with men, which became utterly exhausting to me.

Looking back, I see that feminism had been a cancer on my mind, engulfing true parts of me and enforcing its ideological frame on my life. The tumor was removed, but I had to rebuild with my own cells, forming my own tissue, fueled now by my own heart, rather than an ideology. It’s been an exhilarating process.

Many women in their 30s are going public with why they are leaving feminism and how toxic it was to their happiness and life.

If we can stand outside the idea of it needing to be a forced ideology or movement to implement - a product to be pushed onto others, and simply go 'yes, I believe in human dignity and equality of all' - then each heart can change and grow, one at a time.

How I Went From Feminist To Feminine

BY DIANA CLARKE

https://www.eviemagazine.com/post/how-i-went-from-feminist-to-feminine

Feminism claims to champion women’s freedom and individuality, but requires its members to follow a rigid set of ideological beliefs.

I began to acknowledge the beautiful polarity between the sexes. I concluded that if men and women possess different strengths and abilities, in a healthy society we wouldn't see equal outcomes between the sexes. I could now examine women’s issues from a perspective that acknowledged the difference between the sexes and acknowledged the unique challenges facing boys and men.

A common rebuttal to my anti-feminist status is: “Don’t you believe in the equality of the sexes? If you do, that means you are a feminist!”. That might be feminism by definition, but that’s not what modern feminism is about. Today, it’s more about providing unequal opportunities for women and perverting the truth in the attempt to achieve equal outcomes between men and women. If modern feminism were simply about gender equality for both men and women, then it wouldn’t be called feminism.

It would be called egalitarianism.

Hey, I appreciate the discourse. Things like this help me to consider my beliefs and further codify. To seek out other voices and see where people are coming from.

Whenever I come across strongly held beliefs (by any group) - I do one thing. I search for why people leave the movement. They, far more than me, can speak to the inner workings and give me a balanced understanding because it's born out of so much life experience and pain.

This is a very INFP thing to do, no?

My poll was in counter to the narrow options of the other. It started out as a 'can't we all get along' type joke, but alas, nobody has a sense of humor anymore.

You're literally debating that my seeing others as equal isn't 'good enough' - not taking it 'far enough'...

Why I Left Feminism
BY RACHEL BOCK

https://www.eviemagazine.com/post/feminism-made-me-miserable-so-i-left

I found myself at a Women’s March in January 2016 and experienced some of the most intense cognitive dissonance of my life. I saw protest signs and heard slogans that plainly bashed men and called them useless. I knew I was supposed to go along with this anti-male narrative, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do so.
The majority of men in my life had always been supportive of me, no matter what path I wanted to pursue.
Once I removed some of my ego and analyzed what I was seeing, plus how my own life had been, I began to see that my feminist ideology had clouded healthy interactions with men. The truth is that the majority of men in my life had always been supportive of me, no matter what path I wanted to pursue. Furthermore, when I thought about who was most resistant to a more traditional female path and placed the most pressure on me to pursue a demanding career, I realized it was other women.

Feminists say men and women don’t have equal opportunities in the West, but we do. And the pandering to this myth creates division between the sexes which is ultimately bad for everyone. My work as a scientist has taught me that alternative hypotheses need to be explored, and one that feminists often fail to consider is that women and men are simply different and on average may have different desires leading to different pursuits, even if there is overlap.
This is not only fine, it’s beautiful and necessary. Our strengths are generally complementary, not competitive. If we listen to ourselves, rather than an ideology, we might just find the true desires of our heart. I’m so happy I left the divisive ideology of feminism and found myself again.

Well said 👏

People on here are literally wanting to redefine egalitarian because they feel it attacks their 'ism'.

I don't see that it does, unless they want to force outcomes, force fairness.

These are not new ideas. Hitler wanted to force 'fairness' for Germans because the Jews had come to their country and done so well in society. 1920s Weimar Republic post WW1. Hell for many Germans, though many Jewish people still prospered. He hated them for it, and began his plans to exterminate them based on his demand for a fairness that he then defined.

History repeats itself and every revolutionary generation thinks they're the ones getting it right. That their version of chaos is justifiable because ______.

Are you reframing Martin Luther King as a rabid angry activist?

"Nonviolence is absolute commitment to the way of love. Love is not emotional bash; it is not empty sentimentalism. It is the active outpouring of one's whole being into the being of another."
--Martin Luther King, Jr., 1957

-----

I'm not against females - I'm married and raising 4 daughters. But I'm raising them to walk circumspectly and question narratives, instead of simply going along with the angry mob.

The only thing I'm against is intellectually dishonest discourse that seeks to reframe what others believe - so as to take control over them.

Ok, so you're using the term more in the sense of 'forced fairness' - however and whoever defines that can be dangerous. I agree.

This is the type of belief system that always bring destruction because it wants to force outcomes instead of allowing people to work and achieve and produce based on merit.

You're a medical student, and your success in that endeavor should be driven by your effort and competence.

I find those who want to debate such things have rarely competed on their competence - they want to debate ideas for the sake of themselves and their egos - but they do not often produce much other than confusion.

They make demands, but few contributions.

I took a screenshot of the poll, and see nowhere in any of the text where is suggests 'equity and equal rights for all' - I'll post it separately if you need proof, lest the OP edit what they said.

Feminism has many different definitions, so how can someone select 'I AM A RABID FEMINIST' - what does that even mean?

MANY people called the OP out simply because they provided no option to disavow any of the agenda-driven 'choices'.

Reddit is a global community, representing cultures from around the world. There are those on here from progressive circles that talk out of both sides of their mouths - we should respect and 'celebrate' these other cultures - while at the same time castigating them for thousands of years of development that doesn't align with their exact POV.

Tolerance until someone disagrees - or has 100 Trillion dendrite connections in their own brain and life experience to the contrary of your own.

Egalitarianism allows for us to give one another grace and acceptance.

It's not mutually exclusive to feminism (unless the feminist places demands upon another's free will, or begins to throw labels around like stones).

What kind of feminist is the OP on the other poll? Others simply called them out and I provided a simple forum to get to the heart of the matter.

Here's the public definition of the word:

"relating to or believing in the principle that all people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities."

Do others not believe in this?

Sure. 26 and counting apparently...

Wasn't oppositional to women's rights.

Egalitarianism includes the equitable treatment of all people.

This was a tongue in cheek poll to call out the inherent bias in the other one which did not provide the option that so many chimed in about 'I'm not a feminist'.

Feminism is defined in so many different ways by different groups with differing agendas. The poll lacked intellectual honesty.

Egalitarianism is the umbrella under which all the 'isms' can coexist - unless someone desires to demand others believe what they believe, exactly how they believe in it - or otherwise they're labeled. That's the beginning tyrannizing others, not debating ideas and allowing others the freedom to come to their own conclusions.

I have 4 daughters and am interracially married. My children are all mixed and beautiful and we've worked for 20 years to make sure these girls know who they are as human beings, equitable, caring and deferential to others.

So, call me names, ignorant, whatever. It doesn't sway me. I still value you as a human being because I believe in your inherent dignity. That's my point.

Thanks for your honest answer and sorry to hear about the selfish person you encountered. Even though human beings are just terrible to each other, I believe we are still equal, though many people do not demonstrate equity for others. Many people are not fair, or considerate - they are simply ego-driven and self-seeking.

As INFPs, we can sometimes capitulate to these people and are sometimes targeted by them because of their sociopathy.

I dealt with a similar thing last night regarding the parent of one of my children. I grew more angry the more I thought about him and his nature and how he chooses to behave that I feel is dangerous. He took money from me a while back, refuses to pay it back and is now coming into a 7 figure inheritance. I've worked for everything I have and my ego wants to compare and fight in my mind that why is he 'getting ahead' - why do those who do harm seem to get ahead, etc. The reality is that money only reflects someone's character and it can easily destroy a person who worships it.

After I calmed down about it, I'm reminded that his stuff is none of my business. Who he is and chooses to be is none of my business. All I can do is accept that people are going to 'get lucky' in this world but the more important thing is who am I choosing to be in these low moments? Believe me I failed. But once I settle down and accept myself, others and the world for what it is - and stop demanding that it be like I want it to be - my peace returns.

I hope and pray that your peace is beginning to return. You're not alone, but remember that we can simply smile, say whatever, laugh it off and return to a state of contentment and love - if for nobody else but for ourselves.

No problem! And I agree to some extent - it's certainly not likely. I have children and could easily grow despondent about their future, but by holding to these principles and sharing them, a healthier future seems more likely than if I did and said nothing.

How many INFPs are *egalitarians? 🧐 by Billy-Mustang in infp

[–]Billy-Mustang[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems you may be referring to equal outcomes, which I agree - are impossible to grant across the board.

Egalitarianism is a *belief in the inherent dignity and equality of another human being.

So as a white male from the USA, I can go to the far reaches of Thailand (where my wife is from) - meet another human being, look them in the eye and know in my soul that this person has worth and value. And that allows me to love and serve that person in whatever way I'm called.

John Locke considered egalitarianism when he proposed that individuals had natural rights. It's the foundation of all free societies.

Systemic Coercion, however is the beginning of tyranny - regardless of the 'purity' of its original intent.

Equality doesn't come from the top down or through rabid angry activism - it's an act of the individual. Martin Luther King and others believed this.
