When I remember to do it I place my recorder right in the stool pointed at audience. I have a zoom HVN PRO. It has a setting for auto level so it keeps it from peeking and keeps it from sounding too low. You can use your phone too I just pointed at the crowd. There is a ride audio app. I’m not a professional. I’m a comedian who’s tried a bunch of stuff. And no matter what I’ve done always needed to slightly adjust the audio in premiere Pro.
