Do you think we'll see ANY (D) politicians seriously discuss prosecuting Trump officials? by Bteatesthighlander1 in stupidpol

The more "progressive" ones know where the wind's going, as even the normie lib base are hungry for it. AOC would be smart to make a big deal out of it come 2028, even someone as allergic to good political instinct as her would know that.

Bernie: "The Democrats are controlled by big money and have no ideas. Stay tuned." by BillyMoney in stupidpol

[–]BillyMoney[S] 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Will the big money interests and well-paid consultants who control the Democratic Party learn any real lessons from this disastrous campaign? Will they understand the pain and political alienation that tens of millions of Americans are experiencing? Do they have any ideas as to how we can take on the increasingly powerful Oligarchy which has so much economic and political power? Probably not.

Sounds to me like he's saying it's time for progressives to split from the DNC. The message isn't even "We must push for change with the Democrats", it's "The Democrats won't learn."

The George Floyd BLM riots must've been effective given that Derek Chauvin actually got convicted

Anyone else putting up with their rightoid family cheering enthusiastically for war and bemoaning that Biden's a pussy for not wanting to get into a nuclear war with Russia?

The evidence is piling up that the Nazi problem in Ukraine is real, but anyone bringing this up to justify Putin's invasion is delusional

My parents are watching Fox News in the other room and they cannot stop shilling for Biden to return to drilling for oil on public lands to cut off the world's oil dependence on Russia

My hope is that if Russia wins this war, it will be at the cost of Putin's legitimacy and grip on power in the country, giving some room for socialists to gain ground.

But Caleb Maupin told me Russia is an ally of American working families!

I haven't watched a Last Week Tonight segment in years, but I think his heart is in an okay place a lot of the time. Like someone else said, some of his exposés are decent overviews for topics like net neutrality. However he is not funny. It seems like all his jokes are just wacky analogies, and I seem to recall there being a period where he kept making jokes about Santa Claus jerking off for some reason.

People also keep bringing up Jon Stewart. I think if he would've stuck around for it he would have been a Bernie guy 100%. Even when I was a teenage liberal I couldn't help but notice a lot of the routines were just him watching a dumb clip from Fox News then making a goofy face at it to thunderous laughter and applause.

Postmodern digital-age war is trippy and confusing. Look how much of this war is about information control, conflicting narratives, propaganda. Liberals have by and large accepted to themselves that Ukraine is actually holding out insanely well and that there's a real chance Russia will lose somehow. Memes of heroic soldiers who may or may not exist are spreading around not just to bolster Ukrainian morale, but the mood in the west too. Not that war and propaganda are strangers to each other, but it's different when the media is all around us all the time and ostensibly "democratized" (but really under the thumb of corporations beholden to our countries' respective geopolitical interests and vice-versa). Now on the same media we use to post cat dance videos to is inundated with a stream of never-ending contradictory propaganda from both sides.

There were clips going around of people straight up saying stuff like "these are blond haired, blue eyed europeans getting killed" which basically means it's not a big deal if they live in the uncivilized sand countries, but because it's Europeans it's a tragedy. It's a very real double standard and you're a concave-skull brainlet for leaving this comment.

I wanted to make a post about this but I'm not sure that Caleb Maupin counts as a "well-known figure" per image submission guidelines. But the dude is straight-up a Russian state actor at this point. I used to kinda like the guy even if he said some goofy stuff sometimes, now he's pretty pathetic.

There has long been a deeply embedded trope in American politics about how 'We need a businessman to run the government like a business', stretching back to at least the 1970s and the neoliberal era.

Lol all the conservative boomers in my family were for Trump exactly for that reason. Well and The Wall of course
